A Message From Principal Choquette 2/8/19
Good afternoon, and happy weekend to you all. There is a lot of information in this weekly, so please mark your calendars!
It is that time of year again for Kindergarten registration. This year's registration will be held on February 28th from 3:30-6:00 p.m. here at Bridge Street School. Please spread the word to those families you may know that need to register.
The 14th Annual VINS Dog Show will be held on Saturday, March 2nd (snow date March 3rd) from 12-3 p.m. in the Northampton High School gym. Come chase away the midwinter blahs at a fantastic family fun event. It is free for people with or without their dogs! All are welcome to join the fun at the fourteenth “March Forth with Your Dog-Not Your Typical Dog Show." Adults and children can register their dogs to compete in categories like “Best Fetcher,” “Best Dressed,” or “Most Obedient” with preregistration available through February 27th. The two-legged audience attends free with donations welcome. Food, vendors, cookie decorating, face painting, and a country store raffle will be available. All young and adult dog owners may join the Parade of Dogs at 12:15 p.m. VINS (Volunteers in Northampton Schools) recruits, trains and places volunteers in all district schools, and this is the primary fundraiser for the organization. We hope you can all join in the fun and come out and support VINS.
This year's Read-A-Thon begins Monday, February 11th and lasts through Sunday, March 3rd. This exciting annual event celebrates our students' reading and also serves as an essential fundraiser for the Nature's Classroom program. Parents should have received packets in school folders a few weeks ago, but if you need another just ask at the office. Please encourage your child to sign up sponsors and start logging their reading on Monday!
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is returning to Bridge Street School again this Spring and we are looking for two more volunteer coaches to help!
GOTR is an innovative after school program that inspires girls to be joyful, confident and healthy. The curriculum encourages the girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. It’s all about girl power and no running experience is necessary! Before we can open registration for our 3-5th grade BSS girls, we need help recruiting volunteer coaches who can be at the practices. Coaches are trained, supported and given all supplies needed to have a successful season. Coaches can be a parents or local community members (doesn’t just have to be a BSS person). Practices meet twice a week from March 11th-June 2nd after school at Bridge Street school on Mondays and Fridays from 3:00-4:30pm. And, if you are enrolled in BASE, you can pro-rate that session and do both programs seamlessly! If interested or would like to learn more, please reach out Bridge St parent and volunteer coach Alex Russell: alexandra.russellb@gmail.com or GOTR program director Molly Hoyt: molly.hoyt@girlsontherun.org / 413-320-1845.
Lastly, we are excited to announce a new digital display (coming soon) in the front lobby outside of the office. This display was provided to the school through an NEF grant and will be used to showcase the awesome work happening in classrooms across the our school. At BSS we always aim to create an open and welcoming environment. We hope that images of the vibrant and creative work students and teachers are engaging in will do just that. We also want to clarify that these images are only used internally. They are not published anywhere and are not accessible outside of school. We ask that you watch, get excited, and discuss what you see but we ask that you not take any pictures, video or in any other way record the display.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Hiring Updates
I'd like to welcome Mr. David Harasymiw to our staff. Mr. Harasymiw has been hired as a paraprofessional replacing Kelly Martin. Welcome to our school David!
