The Jewel Building

In Agra,India there is a magnificent structure called the Taj Mahal. It is located on the southern bank of the Yamuna River in India. It houses the grave of an old emperor's wife,Mumtaz Mahal. It took 1,000 elephants to pull all of the materials to the building site. The Taj Mahal was built with many gems to make it seem to change color. The Taj Mahal is one of the 7 wonders and still stands, today.
Why It Was Built.
The Taj Mahal was built to house the grave of an the emperor,Shah Jahan's wife. His wife died after giving birth to their 14th son! Shah Jahan started the construction of the Taj Mahal, immediately after her death.
How It Was Built.
It was built with white marble that made it seem to change color, depending on how the sun or moon reflected on it. Her grave is not actually on ground level,it is on garden level.This is below ground level. It also has many false tombs to trick grave robbers.
What It Was Built With.
It was built with white marble. On the marble are gems such as Jade,Lapsi Lazuil,Amethyst,
and Turquoise! There are also verses from the Qur'an inscribed in the marble. Inside the Taj Mahal there are 99 ways to say Allah's name. There are many paintings and statues in side as well.
The Taj Mahal also has a pond in the court yard.
Today some 3 million people visit the Taj Mahal every year. It is such a gigantic tourist attraction because it is so exquisite. Not only that but the history of the Taj Mahal, itself is
so cool. It has to be so awsome to have your own grave house. The Taj Mahal is great, and
nothing will ever be built like it.
