Miss Amy and Miss Courtney's Preschool Classroom
This Week
Tuesday was a busy day! We got very messy! Everyone made spooky ghosts out of shaving cream and Elmer's glue. Then they sprinkled glitter on top and added black eyes! They LOVED this! This craft lasted awhile, so we had to have a quick picnic type snack on the rug before Miss Kara came in to do a group lesson. We played a game where we took a pom pom ball and had to throw it into a matching colored hula hoop. Then they had to crawl under the table to get back to where the pom poms were. After this game, we played a wrap the mummy game. Each "team" picked one friend that thought they could stand super still. Then the other kids wrapped them up to look like a mummy. It was really hard for some friends, but they enjoyed every minute of it! :)
Wednesday, we enjoyed reading a favorite preschool story, "The Big Green Monster." Miss Becky read it aloud as we all got a chance to interact using the green monster puppet. We had to take off and out on his spooky face parts. We loved this read a loud! Afterwards we got into 3 small groups. One group worked on recreating the monster from the story. Another group worked on fine motor skills by ripping and gluing orange paper onto a small paper plate to create a pumpkin. Lastly, the 3rd group worked on the rug to learn all about matman. Matman is our friend from handwriting without tears. He is made out of big lines, little lines, big curves and little curves. All of his body parts are lines and curves, which form shapes, and eventually form letters. We worked on making his body with all of the correct parts. Today we also played next door with Mrs Strohls class during centertime. We are getting much better at sharing space, toys and ideas.
Thursday, we had an extended choice time to finish up our art work from yesterday. Everyone got busy finishing their work while others worked on creating pictures with dot markers and playing a bowling game with pumpkins and blocks on the rug. During whole group reading we read, " The old lady who was not afraid of anything." The kids love this story because they get a chance to help read it. The text is repetitive and by the end everyone is reading out loud together! Today we also made a very spooky witch craft. The kids used scissors to cut strips of paper in order to decorate the witches stockings. Some kids did patterns, while others just worked on cutting and snipping paper at their own skill level. Everyone enjoyed gluing their finished decorations onto their witches. We also played our "Which Witch" game again. We are getting better at not being upset when we don't get a turn and better at being patient when we really want a turn!
Friday we had a really fun choice time! The kids created their own obstacle course. Other kids played with PlayDough. Miss Tam and Miss Kelly pulled each kid one at a time to work on some cutting skills and lacing skills to make awesome spider webs! After choice time, we did our GoNoodle Dance and decided to make trolls out of the paper towel rolls that you brought in for us! They snipped the "hair" on the top and then snipped "legs" on the bottom. They all drew a face on their troll. This was a fun project and absolutely something you can do at home! We had art with Mrs. Nice and we enjoyed the nice weather outside!
Have a great weekend!!!
Next Week
After Halloween, we will begin a leaf and tree unit of study! We will be reading all different stories about different trees, will make different tree crafts and will be doing nature walks to discuss leaves!
