Boundary Update

DRAFT Redistricting Scenarios & Online Survey

Big picture

Good Morning,

The Boundary Committee met this past week to review two sets of draft scenarios that were updated based on committee comments and suggestions from their last meeting in May. The committee chose to move forward with one set of scenarios that emphasized a balanced utilization of space across all schools in the WSD. During the month of September, we are asking all stakeholders to weigh in on these draft scenarios so the committee can further develop the new boundaries in October and November before making a final recommendation to the Board of Education. Please note: these scenarios are approximately 60% complete.

The committee will take the feedback from the online survey and three Community Forum meetings to make additional adjustments in October and November before a recommendation is made to the Board of Education in December. The boundaries will not be finalized until they are approved by the Board of Education.

We also encourage all stakeholders to plan to attend one of the three Community Forums scheduled during the month of September:

Tuesday, September 10 at Frontier Middle School from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, September 11 at the WSD Administrative Center from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Monday, September 23 at South Middle School from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

We fully recognize that with every attendance area that is adjusted, students and families are affected and District leadership is certainly mindful of that. District leaders also understand there are areas that have been moved more than once over the last decade given our growth and the addition of 11 new schools during that time. “We will work with the committee to be conscious of areas that have moved schools previously, while understanding there will be students across all grade levels affected by the new boundaries,” shared Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “The good news is all WSD schools are exceptional and have highly qualified staff who are committed to the success of all students.”
