To prepare for this event, the students will interview family members to learn about the origins of their ancestors, family traditions, and cultural celebrations. At home, students will learn to follow a recipe with the help of parents and will prepare a traditional food (enough for 25). The dish will be brought in and shared with our class on December 19th at the luncheon.
For homework, children will also create a paper quilt square representing their heritage, and they will write a brainstorm list for the speech. We will write the rough draft and final copy of the speech in class.
We look forward to having you join us for this fun celebration of our multicultural heritages. Thank you in advance for your help with our Multicultural Extravaganza!
Dates and deadlines:
1. Students will bring to school a hard copy of the recipe of the dish that they intend to prepare for the festive meal by December 5, 2012. Parents will also need to RSVP and sign up on the WIKI so that we have enough main courses and side dishes (only 2-3 desserts please).
2. On December 3, students will be given a special graphic organizer to gather information about the family's holiday celebration. This will be due on Friday, December 7, 2012.
3. On December 10, students will be given special "Quilt" paper and directions to create a Multicultural Quilt Square which will be due on Friday, December 14, 2012.
