These ongoing learning opportunities will benefit the child as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

Classroom Placement 2017-2018 School Year
The process for determining classrooms for next year begins soon. This process is very time consuming and will not be completed until early August. Families will learn who their child's teacher is as part of fall registration.
Although we do not take requests for specific teachers or to place a child with a specific friend, we do take your input on the kind of classroom or the learning needs of your son or daughter. Please send an email or write a note to Ann Schroeder (CEELC and MPS Students) or Sue Murphy (Waubesa Intermediate Students) with placement information.
REMINDER:
Literacy Lowdown
Do you ever find yourself wondering what your reader sees in Morris Goes to School, Pippi Longstocking, or even Sweet Valley High: Double Love? (Yes, I must admit these were some of my favorite childhood reads…) It’s important to remember “...We all have the same common goal—to raise the next generation of readers. We can’t expect our children to come to where we are just because we want them to. We need to go to them, give them the tools they need to succeed, and gently bring them to where we want them to be.” So as parents and educators, how do we do that? We focus on the joy of reading by honoring and celebrating our children’s reading choices, reminding ourselves, “This child may not have been reading in the same way that I read when I was a child …but he was reading. And man, is that something to celebrate.”

A Note From Interim Principal Ann Schroeder...
Dear Elementary Campus Families:
As March arrives, we typically look forward to warmer temps, but February surprised us! Students enjoyed recess without snow gear, but as we know, winter isn't over and March will be a mix of weather, so keep that snow gear handy.
We are looking forward to Spring Parent Teacher Conferences; thanks for making conference attendance a priority as we had an excellent fall conference turnout, and I anticipate the same for Spring Conferences. Teachers have important information to share about student progress, and it's an opportunity for parents and teachers to collaborate regarding student learning and social/emotional needs. This month, teachers will make academic Summer School recommendations for students specifically in the areas of reading, writing, and math as well. Be sure to check out the Scholastic Book Fair during March Conferences!
Parents recently received an announcement from Superintendent Dr. Briddell regarding Dr. Kelley Novak's hire as the new Principal for CE/MPS starting July 1. As your retired Interim Principal, I've had the pleasure of working with Dr. Kelley Novak this year, who currently serves as our Director of Teaching and Learning for Literacy and the Humanities, and I'm pleased that she'll be the new Principal as of July 1st. Dr. Novak and I will work together to assure a smooth transition. Already this semester, she will be involved in having a role in decisions that will impact the buildings such as the new building project. As Dr. Briddell mentioned in his communication, she has a strong background as an elementary teacher and administrator, having previously served as an elementary principal and assistant principal for eight years in both her home state of Florida and in Wisconsin as well as experience working through a new building process and providing collaborative leadership for our Elementary Campus staff on the design of our new school facilities. The Elementary Campus will be in good hands!
Enjoy the upcoming Spring Break!
Ann Schroeder, CEELC/MPS Interim Principal

From the desk of Principal Sue Murphy...
In March we join the national celebration of Youth Art and Music Month at Waubesa Intermediate School. The fourth and fifth grade students will be having their evening shows. (3rd Graders performed in the fall) We hope you can all join us for this great event. The art display is always fantastic and the music is awesome to hear. Both events start at 6:00 with the 4th graders performing on March 6 and the 5th graders performing on March 20.
While you are visiting Waubesa for the art and music programs, please take a few minutes to look over our lost and found tables near the commons for any unclaimed items that may belong to your child. Our tables are full and growing every day! Of course you are welcome to come to school at any time to try to find a lost item.
All lost and found items will be donated over Spring Break!
In addition to our Waubesa art and music programs, the McFarland Public Library will be hosting a Youth Art Month Reception on March 2 from 5:30 – 7:00. Art created by students in grades K-12 will be on display and musical performances will occur throughout the event.
OTHER NEWS:
Wisconsin weather can be quite fickle this time of year. We can have 50 degrees and sunshine one day with cold temperatures and snow the next day. Please check the weather report each day and make sure your son or daughter comes dressed appropriately. Winter wear including snow pants, coats, hat, mittens, and boots may still be necessary in March.
Have a great SPRING BREAK, and please give me a call at 838-7667 Ext. 4601 with any questions.
