Henrico county is split up in 3 different branches Executive, Legislative, and the Judicial Branch. The Executive Branch is held by the county manager. The Legislative Branch is held by the board of supervisors. The Judicial Branch includes the District and Circuit Courts.

THE COUNTY MANAGER:
The Board appoints the County Manager, who is the chief administrative officer of the County
Our county manager is John A. Vithoulkas.
He is responsible for executing the policies established by the Board of Supervisors and for advising and recommending actions to the Board to meet the needs of County residents.
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
The Board of Supervisors has five members, one representing each of the County’s five magisterial districts: Brookland, Fairfield, Three Chopt, Tuckahoe and Varina.
Supervisors are elected for four-year terms.
- The Board elects a chairman and vice chairman in January of each year. The chairman presides at Board meetings and serves as the official head of County government.
THE CIRCUIT COURT JUDGES CHAMBERS:
The Henrico Circuit Court is the 14th Judicial Circuit Court in Virginia and is the trial court of general jurisdiction.
It is composed of five full time Judges.
The Circuit Court has authority to try a full range of cases, both civil and criminal, jury and nonjury.

Henrico Circuit Court is organized into three divisions: Criminal, Civil, and Equity.
VOTER REGISTRATION:
It is a responsibility for someone to vote.
It is also a good thing to do.
SCHOOLS:
It is the mission of the Office of Safety and Security to guide, encourage and empower all members of the HCPS community to create an environment in which we can all safely learn, work and play.
Elementary schools include kindergarten through fifth grade. Classroom instruction and individual activities give children a solid academic foundation for further education. Weekly art and music instruction as well as physical fitness classes are also components of the elementary curriculum.
The middle school curriculum meets the needs of developing adolescents with academic requirements which include English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Exploratory courses allow students to begin to develop their own interests.
The curriculum for grades nine through twelve includes college preparatory, work/study programs, and vocational and technical training that provide entry-level job skills. Five foreign languages are offered, including Japanese. Honors and advanced placement courses are offered for students who demonstrate the ability and desire for in-depth study.

One of the oldest political subdivisions in Virginia, Henrico was the scene of the second settlement in the colony and was established in 1634 as one of the eight original shires or counties. The county was named for Henry, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of King James I of England.
