Stingray Scoop-March 2020
Robert L. Vale Middle School
We Miss You Stingrays!
I can tell you that while our work is certainly changing, we are still dedicated to meeting the needs of our Stingrays in the best way possible. If you have any questions there is still some staff on campus to answer phone calls and we are always available via email.
As there are district updates, we will continue to send emails, do a call out and post on our website. NISD is updating their website regularly with important information at https://www.nisd.net/news/breaking-updates-regarding-covid-19
While we do not know what the future holds, please know that our Stingrays are in our thoughts and always in our hearts!

Distance Learning Begins!
As we move forward with distance learning, we want to assist with clarifying some campus processes. Please know that as things evolve we will keep you informed of updates and changes.
Starting Monday, March 23rd we will begin online teaching and learning. Students will access online content through the student portal and assignments through Google Classroom. https://www.nisd.net/distance-learning
We are fortunate that the district has provided amazing content for us to utilize and our Vale teachers have been using Google Classroom all year. Please know that our students are familiar with Google Classroom and they are prepared to do what is needed for distance learning.
Our Librarian, Ms. Roy will serve as a support for accessing digital resources. She will be sharing on-line resources through a newsletter that will be posted on our website.
Communication with parents and students is essential to effective student learning. To ensure appropriate communication, all teachers will have office hours where they will be available to you and our students.
8:30 am - 10:00 am - Teachers will be online posting activities/assignments and providing feedback on completed work.
12:00 pm - 12:30 pm - Teachers will check in and respond to urgent issues and check emails at this time.
2:30 pm - 3:50 pm - Again, teachers will check in. During this time, they will provide feedback on assignments, answer student/parent communications, and assist in any way they can.

What's Happening at VMS!
- While school has been closed, we have been busy serving food to our community every day. Starting Monday the hours are changing and breakfast will be from 7 am-9 am and lunch will be served from 11 am-1 pm. Our coaching staff, counselors and admin have been out supporting this process and making sure kids are eating.
- NISD officers are helping get our parents on and off campus safely.
- Our Counselors and Technology Support Specialist have been busy getting technology to students so that they can be ready on Monday for Distance Learning.
- If you haven't had the opportunity to follow our boys athletics on twitter, please do (@Vale_boys_ath). They are providing awesome workouts for our students to try at home...and we have been trying them too!
- Teachers have spent the last few days adjusting to the new distance learning platforms and getting ready for our Stingrays!
