Fourth Grade Dream Team

Takes on the Holidays

The Chromebooks have Arrived!

Thank you to everyone who supported our Donor's Choose grant to purchase Chromebooks for our classrooms!

Hour of Code

Many students participated in Hour of Code this week. We kicked it off with a video of our president discussing the importance of computer science. From there, students were given a choice of which computer coding activity they would like to attempt. If your child would like to continue this from home, visit this link: http://code.org/learn.

It's the Busiest Time of the Year...

Math

We are in the midst of our learning how to multiply 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. The students are really excited about this. So far we have learned how to use the expanded algorithm with partial products, how to multiply when there are multiples of ten, and some of us even know how to use the standard algorithm for multiplication.

We will be wrapping up this unit with a test next Thursday or Friday depending on how the week goes.

All students should be logging in daily to Xtramath.org. This fact fluency practice is crucial for a successful math career. Thank you for your continued support!

Students have been very responsible using school devices as well as their own devices. Thank you for sending them! Over the last few weeks students have been participating in a QR Code multiplication scavenger hunt. They've also used devices to login to www.mobymax.com to learn math modules at their individual levels. They are so excited!

Social Studies

We're sure you know by now all about the excitement that is Market Day! It's finally upon us; only a few more days until our fourth graders hit the gym with their businesses on Tuesday, December 16! All Reid classes have signed up to come visit and purchase the items your children have created. Please remember to turn in receipts for what you'd like to be reimbursed for, taped to the reimbursement page in the original packet that was handed out. We will be accepting donations if you don't want to be reimbursed. Remember that students have chosen The Humane Society of Genesee County as the recipients of profits from Market Day. Please discuss with your child what the lowest price they should sell their product(s) for should be, in order to pay back "loans" and make a profit! A blue note was sent home this week to explain some of the last minute details of Market Day. If you or another family member is planning to come help on Market Day, we would appreciate adult presence as the kids deal with the money coming in to their businesses!

Students will have their final Economics district test on Thursday, December 18. A study guide will come home on Monday.

Writing

We are currently finishing up the persuasive letter unit. Students have selected an audience and an issue they wanted to express their point of view for in a letter. They are excited to take them home next week to show you before the holidays! Students will begin a new unit after the break with Mrs. Gates.

Missing Assignments... Oh My!

We have a growing number of missing assignments. Please have your child login to their Synergy account to check for missing assignments. If they have missing assignments, please have a discussion with your child about their plan to get their work turned in before the holiday break.

Brain Freeze

We will be sending home a "Brain Freeze" packet the day before holiday break. This will help to keep your child's skills sharp over the two week break. Any child who completes this packet and turns it in on January 5th will have a hot chocolate party with Mrs. Bowman.

Holiday Celebrations

We will be celebrating the winter holidays on Thursday, December 18 from 1:00-2:15. Please visit our Sign Up Genius page to see what items are needed for the planned activities in each classroom.

On Friday, December 19, there will be a whole school sing-a-long in the morning. Students will then be watching a PG movie in the afternoon. We will also use time on Friday to have any students with missing assignments complete their work before heading off to break.

Congratulations are in Order!

We are really working on building our fourth grade sense of community. Last week we had a team meeting to celebrate successes as well as set goals for the new year. We recognized several students for their efforts. We celebrated students who are making improvements, showing kindness, responsibility, and just overall hard work. We look forward to celebrating the success of many more students in the future!

Toys for Tots

Each classroom is responsible for donating one new toy to Toys for Tots. Our student council is hoping to have 100% participation. Please let us know if you are willing to donate a toy for one of our classrooms.

So Long, Ms. Colyer!

We have enjoyed our time having Ms. Colyer here for Mrs. Gates. Mrs. Gates will be returning to her classroom on the Monday we return from break, January 5th!
