Nurse's Blog

Being Thankful

I saw a student recently at Safeway. He had moved away a few years ago but told me he always wanted to move back to Seward. He would come to see me at the nurse’s office and we’d talk usually for a very long time. He had problems at home and at school. The young man standing before me now has a job and feels like he is doing well. It is always affirming to know a student that has faced challenges at home and school can be resilient in his future. A blossoming thought occurred while I was talking to this young man and I knew then that it is the connection with students that I have missed most this school year. We all have definitely lost many things this year. Ultimately, it has brought to the forefront what is truly important in my work and that is the connections I have made with students and staff.

COOPER LANDING SCHOOL

Congratulations Cooper Gossard!

Soldotna High School and SOHI's National Honor Society recently announced that Cooper Gossard has been nominated for the First Quarter as Student of the Quarter due to outstanding performance in World Geography/AK History. Cooper's teacher, Mr. Zibell stated, "Cooper has been an excellent student. All of his work has been organized, submitted on time, and of a very high quality. Even though he is a remote student he has gone above and beyond in the quality of his work." Great job, Cooper!

Holiday Swags

If you haven't yet ordered a swag or two, please consider doing so soon. The swags are $20 each or two for $35. Any number over two will be $17.50 each. The swags will be available a few days before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to have community volunteers help make/decorate them this year. Once the swags are ready, we will notify people by email and will display them outside the school for people to pick up. Please email Donna Tucker at dtucker@kpbsd.org with your order. You do not need to pre-pay. Thank you for your generous support of Cooper Landing School!

November 13 - School lunch order deadline, noon

November 24 - PTO Meeting, 3:45

November 25 - Thanksgiving Feast All Ages!

November 26 - Thanksgiving Break NO SCHOOL

November 27 - Thanksgiving Break NO SCHOOL

A reminder to parents to send your kiddos to school with mittens, hat, boots, coat and snow pants now that winter has arrived! We go outside for recess in all types of weather, and will continue to do so until it becomes too cold.

We will be doing a Thanksgiving feast with the whole school before break. Parents are invited to attend, however you will need to have your volunteer paperwork filled out in advance. If you have not already done so, you can find that information here: https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/employment.aspx?id=19556. You will not be allowed to attend if you have not filled this out prior to the event. Please send your confirmation email to mtrostel@kpbsd.k12.ak.us when you have completed the application. You must do this every year, it does not roll over.

One important piece of news is that Molly, our PTO Treasurer has resigned. We are still accepting nominations for a new treasurer, and have not yet received any. Fear not, no accounting experience necessary, just a willingness to come to meetings. Please email nomination to Molly at mtrostel@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.

School lunches must be ordered by noon on Friday for the following week. You must fill out one form per child and will need your child(ren)'s student ID number.
