St. Mike's Matters - Notes
January 5, 2023
Happy New Year!
There is so much wonderful news this January! Thanks to your diligence we have almost all our commitment cards in for the parish. Since our tuition rates are directly influenced by your giving we are hoping to be able to reduce tuition yet again this year. Stay hopeful and stay tuned.
The principal search is coming along well. The committee is meeting regularly and the position is posted on the Archdiocesan website as well as other job posting sites. Say a prayer for the committee's work. I know they're working hard to see that we are in the very best hands.
Open House (Sunday, January 29th from 11:00-1:00) is fast approaching . Please invite any families that are even a little interested in St. Mikes. We really want a terrific showing this year and hope to gauge parish interest among families who want to send their children to us.
One more shout out to all the families who are helping with the Sunday coffee and donuts. I know Fr. Jim greatly appreciates your help, and we do too! PTSA - thank you Mary Sherman and Kim DeBord - you are the best!
Finally - New Year's resolutions. We value our families and kids more than anything and resolve to continue to do the best jobs we can to partner with you in the education of your children. Thank you for your continued trust and support. May 2023 bring many blessings to you all!

THE GIFT OF LIGHT
Thank you so much to Ryan Schwan and Brent Swanson for upgrading the
pole lights along the drop-off and the walkway to new LED fixtures.
The fixtures were provided by CED and S 3 Construction provided the lift to get the work done.
What an improvement! The teachers and staff can actually see clearly when we leave school after dark.
Thank you Ryan and Brent, for all of your hard work!

What Is A Birthday Book?
Birthday books are added to the collection at St. Michael School library in honor of someone's birthday. Any student can select a book from the collection of new books waiting to be added to our library. The book will be presented at Monday Morning Opening and the birthday boy or girl will be the first person to check out the book!
If you would like to celebrate your student's birthday by donating a birthday book, please complete the form. A $5.00 donation is requested to help defray the cost of the book. Please check if you want your SchoolAdmin account charged or you can send in cash or check (payable to St. Michael School and marked "birthday book" on the memo line). If the cost is prohibitive, please contact Mrs. Quebedeaux (school librarian) squebedeaux@stmikesolympia.org, as we do not want any child to be excluded who wishes to participate.
A special Birthday Club bookplate will be printed and placed inside the book cover with your child's name and year the book was donated.

St. Michael Parish School Covid-19 Policy (Updated 11/1/22)
If a student or staff member is ill or COVID-19 positive:
Students and staff who have symptoms of COVID-19 are required to stay home and should get
tested. Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to isolate at
home. Individuals may return to school on Day 6, if they have no symptoms and test negative
on that day (If there are symptoms, Day 0 is the first day of symptoms. Day 1 is the first full day
after symptoms developed. If there are no symptoms, Day 0 is the date being tested. Day 1 is
the first full day after the specimen was collected for a positive test.). If the individual tests
positive on Day 6, the individual is likely still contagious, and should continue to isolate and wait
24-48 hours to test again. If the individual tests negative on two sequential tests each
performed 24-48 hours apart and has no symptoms, the individual can end isolation and return
to school.
If a student or staff member is exposed to COVID-19:
The Department of Health no longer requires exposed students and staff to quarantine. To
protect the school, students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, who are potentially
exposed to COVID-19 should:
- Monitor for symptoms, AND
- Test as soon as possible after exposure and then repeat testing every 24-48 hours through at least the first 5 days after exposure AND
- Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.
COVID-19 positive cases and exposure cases need to be reported to the St. Michael Health
Office (rfeldmann@stmikesolympia.org). COVID-19 testing is available through the Health Office, if home testing is not available.
