PBS Focus of the Week -

This week our PBS instruction is focused on the playground. Taking time to review not only expectations for safe play with games and equipment, but also appropriate problem solving strategies are needed. This would be an excellent topic of conversation with morning meetings all week!

Students having steps to take beyond handling problems in verbal or physical fights are essential. Telling someone to stop, trying to walk away, and telling an adult if the problem continues are appropriate steps. Obviously, if someone does something to intentionally hurt someone else, they need to to be clear that someone needs to notify an adult for help.

Giving our students strategies to use when they have conflict with others is an important life skill!

Awesome Happenings

*Thank you for your time invested in making positive phone calls to parents! These calls help to establish a positive connection between home and school. I had a parent stop me the other day to let me know how much she appreciated the positive call she receive from her child's teacher. These calls DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Thank you for sharing the AWESOME with parents with positive connections!

*Congratulations to Crystal Albers for being honored as the Jays Football Teacher of the Week. She was nominated by former student, Bryce Beckley.

Bryce Beckley went to Moreau Heights Elementary School this week to recognize Mrs. Crystal Albers as the Jay Football Elementary teacher of the week! Bryce said, "Mrs. Albers taught me patience and the importance of having good study habits. She was my favorite teacher!" Mrs. Albers teaches 4th grade at Moreau Heights. She and her class will be recognized at Friday nights home game against DeSmet!

Congratulations to Mrs. Albers!

Nuts and Bolts

*Thank you for your adherence to our district dress code. A reminder that pants must be below the knee in length (ask me if you have a question). School shirts can only be worn on Fridays, unless they are collared. Collared school shirts can be worn during the week with dress pants. The expectation is business casual. Thank you for dressing professionally!

*If you have any questions or concerns about policies or practices, please come see me. I am not able to address concerns when they aren't brought to me for discussion. I promise to bring any questions or concerns to you as well. Thank you for showing me the same respect.

*Interested in attending the JCPS Foundation Gala on Tuesday, September 22nd? Our PTO has purchased a table for 8 representatives from Moreau Heights. If you are interested, please let me know via email by Wednesday, September 16th. I will notify those attending by Thursday, September 17th. Those who had a grant or recognition from the Foundation are invited to sit at the PTO table.

*Mark your calendars for Monday, October 5th. This is the day the Mr. Linthacum will come talk to our staff about facility needs across the district. He referenced this when he came to talk during our opening meetings. We will need to plan on a 1 hour 30 minute meeting that will begin at 3:40 in the library.

*We are 2 weeks from our first assembly that will include awards. Please decide who will receive each of your rewards, notify parents so they can try to attend, then send the awards my way. The awards are the Noble Knight (for someone who is a role model and consistently shows the big 3) and the Charger Award (for someone who has worked hard to improve in academics of behavior in the last month). Remember to write 2-3 sentences about why the child is getting the award and attach it to the back of the award certificate. You will also be getting the request from Kelli for the Kids of Character Chick-fil-a Award.
