Hello CGE FAMILIES
I would like to extend a special thank you to our PTO Executive Board and committee chairs for the countless hours they volunteered throughout this year. This past week was Staff Appreciation Week and the CGE staff was treated to Chipotle, bubbly water, Bundt Cakes and popcorn from Candyland! All were appreciated. We hope you know how much your involvement and contributions this year have benefitted our students and school community. We couldn’t do it without you. Your commitment is truly appreciated. In particular, I want to thank our PTO President, Amanda Reigert, for her service to CGE for the past 5 years. She has truly made CGE a better place in so many ways. We wish her well as she steps down from her position and moves on to Middle school with her youngest child. At the same time, we welcome Heather Hansen as our new PTO president! In addition, Bri Betts will be our Vice President, Lindsay Nelson will be treasurer and Sara Bigham has been voted in as secretary. Welcome to our new PTO Executive Board. We are looking forward to a fantastic 2021-22 school year!
We have begun preparing for the 2021-22 school year! Teachers will be working on classroom placements in early June. Parent Input forms were due on April 23rd and specific teacher requests will not be honored unless there is an extenuating circumstance and a meeting with the principal took place prior to April 23rd. This allows the teachers to build balanced classrooms and carefully consider a placement that will be the best learning fit for your child. Class lists will be sent out electronically in mid-August and cannot be provided prior to that date as enrollment fluctuates throughout the summer.
As of right now, we are planning on having the August student assessment days (each teacher will meet with each student for a 30 minute assessment). These days are scheduled for August 23 and 24. You will have an opportunity to schedule a time for your child closer to these dates. More information to come! Our school start date is Tuesday, August 31st for Grades K-5. PreK start date is on Tuesday, September 7th. Fall Open House is TENTATIVELY scheduled for August 25th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. At this time, we have not received direction as to whether this will be in person or virtual. Our hope is that it can be in person in some capacity! All of this information will be included in our welcome back information via the mail and email in August as well. Please mark these important dates on your calendar as soon as possible!
I can’t believe we have just one month of school left. I am hoping that our students, staff and families remain healthy and we can finish strong! Take care!
Sincerely,
Theresa Blume, Principal
ATTENTION CGE Families!
A segment of 65th street will be closed for a duration of one week beginning May 17th for street construction west of Cottage Grove Elementary. It is anticipated the closure will affect the traffic for both Cottage Grove Elementary and Oltman Middle School. Keeping 65th open to traffic during construction was discussed with contractor, County, and City staff, but due to safety concerns for both workers and traveling public (in particular during school pick up and drop of times) in combination with the hilly terrain near the work area it was agreed that the best option would be for a short duration full closure. The majority of the street and utility work will be completed within the one week window during the full closure with additional work within the shoulders occurring after 65th has been reopened.
The anticipated detour route will include the use of Meadow Grass Ave, 70th Street, and Hinton Ave as shown on the image below. There may be delays in bus routes as well, depending on the traffic flow in and out of CGE in the morning and afternoon. Thank you for your patience and understanding during drop off and pick up times at CGE during this construction. Drive Safely.
First Grade Chick Hatching
Springtime is an exciting time for the first grade students as we study the life cycle of the chicken. The classes participate in incubating chicken eggs and observe the hatching of chicks. Mrs. Gamache donated chick eggs this Spring for our chick hatching. The web cams are up and running with the help from our technology support specialist Cheani Terrell. Hatching day usually occurs on day 21 which falls on May 11th. Sometimes we do have some early hatchers so make sure you check out the link. The links will also be on the Cottage Grove Elementary Webpage: CGE Website
