ONLINE HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHT ~ Mental Health Services ~ Unidentified and unaddressed mental health challenges can lead to poor academic performance, increased likelihood of suspension and expulsion, chronic absenteeism, scholar attrition, homelessness, incarceration, and violence. Access to mental health services at Compass and in the community is critical to improving the physical and emotional safety of our scholars. It also helps address barriers to learning and provides support so that all scholars can learn problem-solving skills, excel in school, and ultimately in life. The following resources available to your child:
Available at Compass:
School-based counseling services – your scholar is encouraged to contact their counselor by making an appointment directly. The Counseling Services Department can be reached at (855) 937-4227. Our counselors support scholars by providing individual sessions, group, or parent consultations, whenever a scholar is having a difficult time due to academic stress, transition to changes in their environment, or social concerns, including isolation. Counseling services, whether provided by our CCS or by an outside provider listed in this letter, are voluntary.
Special education services – if you believe your child may have a disability, you are encouraged to directly contact the Special Education Department at (855) 937-4227 to request an evaluation.
Available in the Community:
Community resources are listed on the school website, in our Parents & Scholar section (password is loveCCS) under counseling resources.
Available Nationally:
National Suicide Prevention Hotline - This organization provides confidential support for adults and youth in distress, including prevention and crisis resources. Available 24 hours at (800) 273-8255.

ENGAGEMENT NEWS
VIRTUAL EVENT SPOTLIGHT ~ Embark on a scavenger hunt tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21 without ever leaving your computer! Together, we will listen to clues and use our researching skills to find iconic landmarks all over the world. Scholars will have the opportunity to present and share their findings in this workshop. CLUB SPOTLIGHT ~ The Scholar Leadership Council serves to provide scholar feedback on school policies and procedures at CCS to ensure that they are consistent with its mission, vision, and values. Members act as a committed group of advisors to the staff and administration, regarding issues that affect their peer scholars. They provide feedback and insight from the scholar’s perspective on school processes, policies and initiatives to ensure that the needs of scholars are included as decisions are being made. They also serve as an advisory, not a decision-making body, that makes recommendations, encourages brainstorming, and provides opportunities for scholar involvement on committees.
