Stanwood Middle School
Family Message - August 28th, 2021
Good morning Stanwood Middle School Families!
As I mentioned in our previous family messages, new this year we will be having Family Connection Conferences for all families on August 30th and 31st.
The purpose of this conference is to meet with your student's Advisory Teacher to start a positive connection with Stanwood Middle School, to answer any questions you may have and for our students to become familiar with our building. We also want to learn more about each of our students. When you come to the building you will also have the opportunity to check out a chromebook for the new year, receive your student's class schedule, tour the building, look over and sign required paperwork, and much more!
Below is a link sign up for a Family Connection Conference, please click on the link and submit the form when done if you have not done so already:
You can also call our office to set up an appointment.
As part of our connection meeting, teachers will ask questions around the following of your student:
•What are your personal interests? What motivates you?
•What are your academic strengths?
•How do you feel about coming back to in-person school?
•The last year was hard for everyone. What are some challenges you might have academically?
•What else would you like to share with us?
For parents, we would like to know your preferred form of communication from teachers and the school (beyond weekly emails).
Finally, if possible, due to social distancing, please leave siblings at home during the connection meeting if at all possible.
Once the meeting is over families will be able to check out Chromebooks and get other information in the foyer. You can also tour the school, although individual teachers will not be available because of Family Connection meetings.
You will see a few Family Messages over the next week as the first day of school, Thursday, September 2nd, gets closer!
You can call our office between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily!
Have a good weekend!

Dress Code
As people start to plan their first day of school outfit, please keep in mind our dress code. For all students, clothing must cover from one armpit to the other armpit to three or four inches down the upper thigh and tops must have shoulder straps (please see the picture below). We also have a no hats or hoods policy for all students while in the building for safety reasons to where we can recognize students and staff.
Stanwood Middle School PTO
Our PTO is an amazing group of people working together to support our students. From fundraisers to activities, their work helps our Spartans engage, connect, and thrive at Stanwood Middle School. Please like their Facebook page for all the up-to-date information about our school--and get ready for a great fundraiser coming this September!
School Supplies
The basics are a great place to start for needed school supplies (some teachers will have additional needs):
A good supply of pens (blue and/or black) and pencils
4-5 composition notebooks
College ruled paper
Binder/Folders
Highlighters
Calculator--low function with square root
Students will also need to dress for P.E. daily

Superintendent's Friday Family Message - August 27, 2021
Hello Families,
It is hard to believe that this is the final Friday Family Message of the summer! We are so excited to welcome back our students next Thursday. As your partner in your child’s education, we want to share with you three areas of focus for the 2021-2022 school year. We plan to work with staff, students, families and our community to address:
- Safety, we are following all safety requirements set by the state, including mask-wearing and social distancing.
- Accelerated Learning, we aim to close learning gaps that may have developed over the course of interrupted learning.
- Relationships, we are committed to developing strong relationships between our schools and our families and community.
We have recorded a Welcome Back Video that shares a bit more on these commitments. As the start of the school year inches closer, please reach out to your school(s) for questions or concerns, we are here to help you!
Joint Message from the School Board President and Superintendent
On Tuesday, Board President Natalie Hagglund and I published a joint message welcoming back students to school and reiterating our compliance with the state’s safety measures for schools. These measures are mandates which are requirements for all K12 schools, public and private. You may review our message HERE.
Summer Learning Celebration!
We have had the pleasure of working with many students this summer during our summer learning program. We are happy to report that our students have, in total, recovered credit for approximately 35 courses. That equates to about 70 one-semester courses recovered. Thank you to our summer learning staff, we could not have done this without you!
Volunteers and Visitors
We are looking forward to welcoming back volunteers and visitors into our schools and classrooms as soon as possible. For now, we are bringing back volunteers in our buildings that are assigned to a specific program or event. Volunteers may also return that are assigned to areas of the campus for purposes of safety and supervision. All general, non-program or event specific volunteers and visitors (think parent helpers) will be allowed back to school later in the year when we have lifted safety protocols. There are no restrictions to parents or guardians for daily pick up or drop off routines outside the school.
Miss the Welcome Back to School Family Webinar?
We had nearly 500 families attend our Family Webinar on Monday, August 23rd. If you would like to watch a recording of either the morning or evening session, please click on a link below.
9 AM Webinar, 6 PM Webinar. Both sessions cover the same information.
