PTO Meeting 4-20-17 Notes
Dear Families,
Below are the links to the handouts that were distributed at the last PTO meeting (4-20-17). Some important points listed below:
Please note the purpose of the PTO and that all families are members since they pay a $5 PTO fee in their tuition payments.
The by-laws that are attached are from October 2013. The new officers along with the new principal will update these bylaws but you can review the old ones.
Financial report attached. The majority of funds generated by the PTO go to technology.
The PTO only had one major fundraiser. The Fall Raffle. Need more.
The Fish Fry was down from previous years. The major problem with how it coincided with spring break affected workers and patrons.
Volunteers for the fish fry - not bad but could have been better.
Kroger Program has been changed. If it is to continue the way it was then a volunteer needs to take charge. The office is not staffed to handle this. We still encourage use since we get over $3000 per year from Kroger. Must sign up each year.
All families received picnic chances and we encourage all families to sell their 10. To date, we have only collected $2200 and over $1000 of sales is from one person.
Bingo is our major source of income. We are having difficulty in getting volunteers to help. This was discussed at length and some good ideas surfaced. A picnic committee needs to be created to make decisions about the bingo and its future. Communication needs to be improved about the help the bingo gives to school monetarily which is approximate $50,000 per year and helps keep the tuition down. If the bingo is eliminated we would need to have fundraisers that would take its place that would generate at least that amount of money. Bingo is 50 out of 52 weeks per year.
Enrollment for next year will increase for the 5th year in a row.
We will not longer be a part of the NSLP. The archdiocese made a decision to end the association with the program. This gives us the opportunity to run our own lunch program and we are very confident we can do this. Lunches will go up 10 cents next year but the there will a better menu and more choices while maintaining the highest nutrition standards.
Work will begin prior to the end of school in fixing the drain problem in the cafeteria. A portion of the floor will be removed and replaced. Because of this work, we will be grilling lunch at the pavilion the last week of school. Should be fun. There will also be some changes in classrooms next year to accommodate our enrollment.
Mr. Dooley and Mrs. Weths are retiring at the end of this year.
The Principal search has given 2 people to Father for him to interview and choose from. The announcement of the new principal should be the first of May.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. All families should have received the list of the activities that will be taking place for the faculty. The faculty love this week and the PTO does a great job of ensuring our teachers are appreciated.
Please support the PTO by attending meetings when they occur.
Message from Dave Neeson
I just wanted to write this request for help in promoting our Chili's fundraiser. I know it sounds a bit odd, but I feel like this is free money that we're missing out on, and relatively easy to raise if pushed out to as many people as possible.
Right now we've raised only $147 off people coming in to purchase food, but we're missing out on a great opportunity by having more go to eat there between now and April 30th.
Please share with family, friends, neighbors, teammates, etc. to go to Chili's to eat.
Have them complete the following steps:
- Step 1: Go to Chili's for a meal
- Step 2: Upon ordering (or when you get your bill), tell the server you'd like your ticket to support the St. Paul Youth Ministry.
- Step 3: Tell them our code: 99999-00000-7810
- Step 4: Enjoy your meal!!!
They don't need a voucher, just say they'd like the funds to benefit the St. Paul Youth Ministry and we're set!
If you'd like, post this on social media, but please feel free to just share the message to as many people as possible, and as often as you feel comfortable. Our code is on the flyer (see below) in case someone forgets.
- Please help and Thank you for all your support!

Vacation Give-A-Way in Dolphin Island
Right now we are at 22% of our goal. If our goal is reached, the school's last day will be May 25th.
The deadline to turn them in for the incentive is May 12th.
- The Parish Summer Picnic is the largest revenue source of our parish and very important in the support of the school. We receive proceeds from this picnic each year to help with the cost of tuition for every family. Without this support, your tuition would be considerably higher, so it is very important you support the picnic.
One of the ways you can help the picnic is to sell your chances and help us achieve our goal of $13,000. If we reach this goal we will get out of school on May 25th and not May 26th. The 8th grade will get out on May 18th instead of May 19th.
Thank you for all the support you provide to school and parish. This makes St. Paul a very special place.

How to Repurpose an Old Smartphone
Just because your phone is old doesn't mean it can't be put to good use. Instead of selling it, consider assigning it one of these seven useful tasks.
- Keep it as a backup phone - Phones get lost, stolen and broken every day.
- Use it as a dedicated camcorder - Whatever you're recording your old Android can make a great second camera.
- Use it as a baby monitor - in fact, it can rival or even exceed standalone products costing a pretty penny. All you need is an app like Dormi. The app is free but limits you to four hours per month of monitoring. To unlock lifetime monitoring, there's a one-time fee of $9.
- Use it as a video doorbell - the phone itself doesn't go outside; you'll need to install either an outdoor Wi-Fi webcam or a smart doorbell. Then your phone can serve as a full-time video monitor, one that lives on, say, a coffee table or nightstand.
- Give it the GoPro treatment - Stick your old phone where you'd normally stick a GoPro. Go to Ebay for a cheap Bluetooth camera-shutter button. (They're available for as little as a few dollars.) That way you can start and stop video recording without having to fiddle with the phone while it's mounted.
- Create a dedicated VR headset - Virtual reality powerhouse! It's true: A smartphone can serve up some terrific VR experiences. All you need is a headset and some apps. There are dozens of universally compatible VR goggles priced in the $20-to-$35 range. As for the apps, hit the Google Play Store and search for "VR" or "Google Cardboard." Both will reveal a wealth of games and other experiences that are compatible with nearly any Android and VR headset.
- Leave it on your nightstand - Voice Snooze Alarm lets you customize the deactivation command.
- Alarm clock
- Clock radio
- Dedicated e-reader
- Meditation player
- Spare Roku remote
- White-noise machine
