Homework Helps and Hints
A big part of the second semester of 2nd grade involves proving a thought or finding evidence in a reading selection to answer a question. You can practice proving things at home when you child says things like, “I think I should be able to stay up later tonight.” You can say “Prove it!” This will force them to think of good reasons why they should stay up (That doesn’t mean you have to let them do it though!). When reading a book you can ask questions like, why did the character react in that way? After they answer, have them find evidence in the book to prove their answer is correct. These verbal exercises will help when they have to write proof down on paper here at school.
