Attention 4th, 5th & 6th Grade Parents
As you may already know, more and more educational research is indicating that there are direct ties that indicate how participating in an orchestra or band program at a young age can greatly enhance a child’s chance to succeed in school and into their adult years. Not only are there positive effects from a social standpoint, but learning how to play a musical instrument also provides benefits for our children’s ability to set goals for themselves and improve their time management skills, just to mention a few positive factors.
Having said this, there is still time to enroll your child in the Gayman String Orchestra or Band Program.
Both Mrs. Telly and Mr. Losch have announced that there is still room for more of most every instrument in the Gayman Band and Orchestra. Fourth grade students are eligible to sign up for lessons this year on the violin, viola and cello. 5th and 6th grade students can also add the string bass to their list of orchestra choices.
For Mr. Losch’s band there is still room for 5th and 6th grade students to join up in a class of any of the following instruments – Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Baritone Horn.
Lessons for all instrumental students will take place once each week and last 30 minutes. Earlier this month all the 4th and 5th grade students brought home a form from school explaining how you can obtain an instrument via a leasing program with an area music vendor. And more information about the instrumental program can be found on Mrs. Telly’s and Mr. Losch’s Gayman websites.

September Boomerang Award
This year, Gayman will continue to accept nominations for the Boomerang Award, which is our way of honoring students who best demonstrate their own developmental assets. What are Developmental Assets? Students possessing a combination of “40 Assets” are typically most successful in school and in life. These assets have the power to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. For a complete listing of the 40 Developmental Assets visit: www. Search-institute.org.
September: #20 - Time at Home. Young person spends time most days in high quality interactions with family. They might share the importance of family experiences and relationships in the school setting.
