Welcome to the SY 20/21 School Year
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the staff at Walker Mill Middle School, I am excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year!
Spring of 2020 has challenged staff and students to find a new normal for learning and connected us in new ways. What I have most learned through this process is how much I appreciate the expertise our teachers bring to WMMS, the ways in which our students continue to work hard to grow and overall. I have gained an appreciation for the small daily things we took for granted - celebrating accomplishments, a fist bump, a hug, or being able to sit and talk to students and the community. What I MOST appreciate about WMMS is how even under circumstances we have never experienced, we are still a learning and caring community.
First, the 2020-21 school year will begin as scheduled on Monday, August 31st. All students will be taught a robust curriculum through Distance Learning until January 29, 2021. As the plan stands, Dr. Goldson will begin reviewing the possibility of returning to school at the start of December 2020 for quarters 3 and 4 (beginning in February 2021).
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s virtual learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends all virtual lessons daily, attends lessons on time, and ready for the day’s learning experience
- Completes and submits all homework assignments given by teachers
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school progress
- Informs the teacher and you, if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
- Knows that we expect him/her to succeed in school.
New Family Meet and Greet
Please join us on August 11 for a Virtual Meet and Greet for new families at 6 PM.

Welcome from the TAG Coordinator
On behalf of myself and the TAG Center team welcome! I would like to welcome both my new and returning parents to the 2020-2021 school year. This year will be like no other school year we have ever had as we adjust to our new norm. While we are unable to be together physically, the TAG team and I are committed to making sure we address your child’s academic and social and emotional needs. Though we will be virtual, teachers will still be providing innovative and rigorous instruction that will foster their development through a creative and challenging curriculum. We will uphold high standards for our students as we prepare them for college and career readiness.
In order to do these things, we must work together as partners. Here at Walker Mill Middle School, we are not only a community but we are family. Collaboration and communication will be key to your child’s success in this program. The TAG Center team and I look forward to meeting all of you on back to school night. In the meantime, please fill out the Parent Contact form (https://tinyurl.com/TAGcontact21) for the school year 2021. This will ensure that you are receiving the latest updates regarding anything TAG from me. The form can also be located on the Walker Mill TAG website (https://sites.google.com/pgcps.org/wmmstaglets/home) at the bottom of the home page. I will be checking my email periodically throughout the summer. If you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached via email at: nadine.gaujean@pgcps.org.
Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to meeting you in August 2020!
