Third and Fourth Grade
Happy New Year
Where Faith and Knowledge Meet
This describes Holy Rosary Regional School / Juan Diego Academy
I thank you for sending your children to a Catholic School.
It is a decision you will never regret and your child will not forget.
Don't forget no classes/school on Monday, January 16; in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Social Studies
We studied about the man for whom we have a holiday on Monday, January 16.
Martin Luther King, Jr. brought attention to the divisiveness and inequality of people of color. Rosa Parks too made an impact on the lives of African Americans. Let us pray that everyone sees Christ in each person they meet and treat each one equally.
Math
We continue with learning and practicing more on Fractions.
"Whatever you do to the numerator/denominator you must to the denominator/numerator."
The students need to practice their multiplication and division skills continually because it is truly needed in mastering fractions.
We change improper fractions to Mixed Numbers; reduce fractions to its simplest form, change from mixed numbers to improper fractions.
Learning about fractions will continue and even as we complete the chapter we will go back to it every now and then. This is one skill that needs mastery before moving to the next grade.
Language Arts
Third Grade is starting the year with The Report Card by Andrew Clements. Have your child share the story . I am sure they are enjoying it. I am so pleased when I have the students asking to borrow books to take home to read. I just love it, love it, love it!
Fourth Grade starts their year with From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler by e.l. konigsburg. The students were curious on what 'e' stood for. So we did a quick research and they found out it stands for Elaine. And yes, even the 4th grade students are wanting to borrow books from the classroom library to read at home. As a teacher who loves to read, I can't be more pleased that the children want to read other books also. Maybe for the last term I will implement my 'Booksharing' activity.
Religion
I love Bible stories and I can see that the children do too. It is just amazing that no matter how often you read the same story you never get tired of them. Every time you read a story, you focus on something else or you see the connection to life. This past week we read about Jesus talking about the Eight Beatitudes. The gospel at the mass for Catholic Schools Week is on that exactly.
Coming Events
I hope to see most of you at the Annual Crab Feed, on Saturday, January 29 at Bellarmine Preparatory School. Please purchase your tickets as soon as possible. It is an all you can eat meal - and I will vouch that it is delicious!
Progress Reports
The reports coming home do not need to be returned but please acknowledge that you have received them.
