Referendum Information Sessions

The District 41 Board voted to proceed with a referendum seeking voter approval on November 8 to solve the District’s significant space issues. This consensus $49 million plan would build a new K-5 Elementary School and a new Early Learning Preschool Center. This will open up space at the elementary schools providing more space for all.

To learn more about the proposed plans, all are welcome to join the following virtual information sessions:

  • Wednesday, September 21, 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 4, 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 13, 6:30 p.m.

Please RSVP to these sessions online at D41.org/referendumsessions or contact Erika Krehbiel, Chief Communications Officer at (630) 534-7218, ekrehbiel@d41.org

All sessions are virtual. A zoom link will be sent the week of the meeting as well as directions about how to submit questions in advance.

If successful, the referendum will allow the district to:

Keep Class Sizes Small in Our Neighborhood Schools

Offer Full-Day Kindergarten for All Families in their Home School

Continue Building Innovative Opportunities for Kids

District 4th Graders Dissecting Squids

As part of the Next Generation Science Standards this year, D41 4th graders are learning about the structure and function of living organisms by participating in a squid dissection. This hands-on lab allows students to see firsthand how a species very dissimilar from humans lives its life. By watching informational videos that talked about defense mechanisms, students were able to provide evidence for how they thought each part of the squid functioned during lab discussions. Students were given the opportunity to opt out of the activity, but were still able to connect information from text, multimedia, and observation of plastic models of the internal and external parts of a giraffe and a tiger. Great job, students!

"Preventing The Unthinkable" with Kristen Ziman at Hadley on Tuesday, October 11

Community members are invited to a presentation that will challenge each person to think about their role in preventing violence. In her presentation titled “Preventing the Unthinkable”, former Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman will discuss how to identify signs that someone might need help or be prone to violence.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, at Hadley Junior High, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn. This program is in partnership with the Village of Glen Ellyn and Community Consolidated District 89.

Glenbard Parents as Teachers Supports Families

Glenbard Parents as Teachers (GPaT) is a Prevention Initiative program funded by the Illinois State Board of Education and administered by the Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE). This program targets families whose children are at risk of academic failure due to either child or family factors. Priority concerns are homelessness, extreme poverty, families involved with DCFS, and/or a child with a developmental delay or disability. It is currently open to families with children birth to three and pregnant moms in districts 15, 16, 41, 44 and 89 and is completely voluntary.

Home visitors provide individualized home visits to support and guide parents. Families receive bi-weekly home visits for parent-child interaction and family support, weekly group sessions, ongoing developmental screening, and connection to needed community resources. In addition to the home visits, the home visitors also provide parent-child interactive groups in Glen Ellyn and Glendale Heights. They work in conjunction with the Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative and other home visiting programs. Services are provided in both English and Spanish, with interpreters for other languages as needed.
