Principal's Message
Sabre families,
We are looking forward to this, our first five-day school week as we approach the halfway point of September. With that, we hope your child is feeling more comfortable in their classes as each day passes.
Congratulations and good luck to our athletic teams, including our cross country, golf, volleyball, and football teams, all beginning their respective seasons of play. It has been a long time since students were able to play and follow their passion, so it is special to see.
One story to share was this past Friday night. There were roughly 3500 spectators at our football game versus Bev Facey, which in of itself was amazing on such a beautiful night. While it brings school pride during victory, what was even better was to see the friendships between the two schools, both on and off the field. Our EIPS students conducted themselves with class and were so supportive of each other, which again, was so great to see!
This week, on Friday at lunch, we will continue with the theme of providing more opportunity for students to be able to sign up and get involved in a variety of clubs and activities.
They include:
· E sport
· Yearbook
· GSA
· Sabres active in leadership (SAIL)
· German exchange
· Video game
· Film
· Newspaper
· First Nations, Metis, and Inuit
· Movement (celebrating the diversity and inclusion at SAL)
On another note, for our early out Wednesdays, additional student academic support will be in labs 133, 134, 140, along with our learning commons (library). This is an excellent opportunity for students to get 1:1 support in areas they may be having challenges in that we can help provide. We also have after school exams on these Wednesday’s, primarily consisting of rewrites and missed exams, which provide an additional opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and knowledge.
School Council Meeting:
Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. Depending on safety protocols, we will decide as we get closer to the day, whether this will be in a virtual format or in person. This determination will be communicated in next week’s edition of the Parent Sabre Scene.
Terry Fox Run:
The school has organized a Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 23, 2021, during block 2. We are setting a school goal of collecting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation to help towards cancer research. Students will bring their donations to their block 2 teacher, and we will be awarding prizes for the top earning classes. If you would like to donate by cheque, please make it out to Salisbury Composite High School, and we will donate on your behalf.
Post-Secondary Sessions:
Students may attend upcoming post-secondary sessions in our Theatre at 2:30 p.m. on the following dates:
September 15 – MacEwan University
September 22 – University of Alberta
September 29 – NAIT
October 13 – Concordia University of Edmonton
October 20 – Olds College
October 27 – University of British Columbia (virtual)
Have an awesome week everyone!
