The Finish Line!
We are at the finish line of summer and all of our building projects! Like any building or remodel project, the last several weeks are a race to the finish and this past month has been just that! I cannot thank all of the BES and District staff that have helped, volunteered, and given up precious time this summer to make BES the BEST. It looks great and just like any project, there are still finishing touches we will be working on completing. However....we are WILDCAT READY to get this year going!
The drop-off and pick-up is always a little hectic at the start of the year. One of our unfinished projects is correcting some concrete work at the BES entrance. For the Back to School Night tomorrow, please keep off that area and anything that is roped off.
Our entrances have gone back to normal - that means we enter off 5th street and exit onto Metcalf. The only entrance is 5th street. The Metcalf exit is a two-way exit where drivers can turn north or south out of the BES campus. PLEASE share that with your high school drivers and anyone picking up or dropping off students. Specifics for each are below and I will go over them at the parent meetings tomorrow night.
If your child comes from west of Metcalf, please consider an alternate plan of transportation during the Metcalf Road construction. It is a very busy area right now for children to navigate. If you need assistance, we will work with you to ensure a safe alternative!
We cannot wait to see you tomorrow, Monday, August 15th at the Back to School Nights:
4th, 5th, and Level II Classrooms: 5-6:30pm
3rd grade: 6:30-7:30
Parent Meetings in Gym with Mrs. Apple:
4th grade: 5:30
5th grade: 6:00
3rd grade: 6:30
Level II: in the classroom
Have a great FIRST week, Wildcats!
Cindy Apple, Principal
Pick-Up and Drop-Off Information
Drop-off and pick-up procedures can be tricky. Please read these directions and feel free to stop by at Back-to-School Night and ask any questions for clarification. It is important that students and families follow our procedures, not only for safety, but so that we can keep track of students at all times. Please be patient and always aware of surroundings during these times. A few minutes is not worth an accident. If you are needing to get to another school, there is plenty of time and the schools work together to ensure students are safe until picked up. Drop-Off: Drop-off of all students will still take place along the east side of BES. Students may exit their vehicle along the front sidewalks, from the BES front door all the way to the playground. Once your child has exited, please check for traffic and pull out to the left to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in the line. We have adults out there to make sure kids get into school safely! At the corner of the drop-off line, on the SE corner, be sure that both lines of traffic come to a stop as students may be crossing at that corner. You may then exit to Metcalf. Pick-Up: All 3rd and 4th grade students will exit the south doors. We encourage you to not park and walk up to meet your child. If you do, we ask that you model safe pedestrian practices and cross at a crosswalk. Do not walk with your children in between vehicles. Vehicles need to line up at the very front of the drive-thru lane at the SW corner of BES. Please pull up to the vehicle in front of you and do not leave spaces. All walkers will use the crosswalk. This line will wrap around to the east side of the building. When your child is safely in your vehicle, please check for traffic and then pull around the line to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in line. You may then exit to Metcalf. All 5th grade students and walkers/bike riders will exit the front doors of BES. 5th grade vehicles are asked to pull into the lot east of BES. Students will be brought over to you. You may then exit at the southeast end of the lot, near the soccer fields. Walkers/Bike Riders: Due to traffic and safety concerns, all walkers or bike riders are encouraged to only cross at the marked crosswalks that have crossing guards. This is at the corner of 5th and Metcalf, at the west end exit of the BES lot and 5th Street or at the south end of the BES parking lot. Please walk the route with your students prior to the first day of school so that they understand the safest route to take each day. We will have many adults assisting in the first few weeks of school. We are confident that these procedures will work effectively with some time, practice and patience! If you have any questions, please contact the BES office at (913) 837-1900.
