Recognition of Quick, Challenging Shift in Learning
Dr. Dustin Barrett, director of instruction, shared with the Board of Trustees earlier this week a progress report of synchronous and asynchronous learning in West Ada School District. Staff, students and families have made great progress in the past year developing new teaching and learning systems while challenged by time, technology and more.
Before COVID-19 Pandemic:
West Ada School District had about one device per two students.
Instruction was in-person with limited digital resources.
Professional development opportunities related to these digital resources were optional, provided to expand a teacher’s toolbox.
Present Day:
Every student has access to a device through the one-to-one device initiative.
Instruction takes place in-person and remotely with extensive use of digital resources.
Staff learned how to use digital resources in addition to other instruction practices quickly in order to provide quality learning opportunities in varied environments.
Remote and early release Mondays provide staff with pivotal time for learning how to engage students in varied learning environments, understanding the digital resources available for instruction, and preparation for the lessons ahead. Technology needs are continually reviewed, with conference cameras, second monitors and external microphones being researched and piloted on campuses now.
