SPRING SPORT ATTENDANCE UPDATE
HEALTH OFFICE UPDATE
PLEASE keep your student(s) home if they are ill. Refer to the MDH Decision Tree and the Home Screening Tool.
Spring is here! Just a reminder, masks are still required. Continue to monitor your symptoms. If there is a pending covid test in your household, everyone needs to stay home until those results are in. Make sure to call the health office if there is a positive case within your household or a close contact! Let's finish the year out strong!!
CLOSE CONTACT REMINDERS
There has been a lot of discussion amongst students - 3 feet vs 6 feet. Schools are able to have students 3 feet apart, however, the close contact definition hasn't changed.
The definition of close contact is someone who was within 6 feet of a person diagnosed with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period. The definition of close contact applies regardless of whether either person was wearing a mask. This also applies to outside - social distancing still needs to occur while outdoors (especially when not wearing a mask).
For schools that use less than 6 feet between students in classrooms, the definition of close contacts should not change. Students sitting less than 6 feet next to another student or person diagnosed with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more should quarantine at home and be referred for testing.
SPORTS & COVID
Now that sports are back up and running if you have a high school athlete and they end up testing positive for COVID, it is strongly recommended they complete the COVID return to play (RTP) protocol. The form needed is linked below.
MSHSL Student-Athlete Medical Eligibility – Post COVID-19 Return to Sport
This return to play is very similar to our concussion return to play. Once our athletic trainer receives the clearance letter from a medical provider, she can finish the protocol with your athlete. If you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out to me, Anne Grahn (District Nurse) or Kris Osterdyk (Athletic Director).
If you decide not to complete this protocol, we need the MHS COVID RTP Denial form on file (see link below).
IMMUNIZATION REMINDERS
It's never too early to start thinking of next school year!! Please remember immunizations or notarized exemption forms are due prior to the first day of school!!
Upcoming Kindergarten, 7th and 12th grade students: You need additional immunizations!
Make sure your 7th grader has their Tdap & 1st meningococcal vaccinations on file or a notarized exemption form. Please note, notarized exemption forms do expire. 7th grade students will need an updated form upon entering high school!!
12th graders need to have their 2nd (booster) meningococcal vaccination on file or a notarized exemption form. This is new and required for Fall 2021 for 12th graders!!
Kindergarten students will need their kindergarten immunizations.
Student(s) will be excluded from the first day of school if I do not have one of these forms on file, an updated immunization, or a notarized exemption. Please make sure either form is on file, as it is very hard to see students miss their first day. This holds true for homeschool students as well!
I know everyone is tired of COVID, however, we are Mustang Strong, and we can do this!!
