Teach Learn Care
A note from Mr. Mowen
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It's hard for me to believe we are down to 15 days of school left for the 2020-2021 school year. In some ways it has seemed like we are just starting to get into a routine but in some ways it feels like we are finishing a marathon. Through all of the challenges we have all faced the last 13 months during the pandemic, I believe we have ALL learned a great deal that will make us better in the future. We could have not had such a great year without your support. There have been many times we have had to lean on each other through the pivots, pauses, changing learning models, IDPH guidance changes, etc. Your support is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Looking to next year I have many questions that I am hoping will be answered sooner rather than later. We are anxiously awaiting guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education about regulations for the 2021-2022 school year. Our Geneseo Board of Education plans to have students in-person for full days 5 days a week starting in August. As plans for the fall become more clear, they will be communicated to you.
Thanks again for all your support this year. I wish you and your family a wonderful May and a great summer!
Take care,
Joe Mowen

Northside Chromebook Collection
**Calling all families who have been borrowing a Geneseo School District Chromebook!!
Chromebook collection will be taking place from May 17th-21st. Please bring the Chromebook and charger to the office during school hours (7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). Our preferred method is for an adult to bring it back to Northside but we understand that may not be possible so having students bring it back to school is allowed as well.

Reading Corner - Summer Writing Activities
Whether your youngsters are jumping rope, running a lemonade stand, or traveling this summer, they can find creative writing inspiration all around them. Consider some of these creative writing ideas to inspire your child to continue writing all summer long.
* Ask your child to write an opening line for an invitation to a birthday party or a family cookout. Example: "Hit a homerun at my baseball party!"
* Take photos of summer events and have your child write captions. Encourage your child to name the people and include interesting details about the pictures. Naturally, these photos and captions can be compiled to create a scrapbook/photo book to document special summer events.
*Skip rope or complete another task together to a rhyme that you write together. You could teach your child a rhyme from your childhood and suggest that he/she make up new words to the same rhythm/beat.
*Let your child set up a lemonade stand. Help him/her design a sign to attract customers.
*Memorial Day and/or Fourth of July is a great time to encourage your child to create an American Flag out of construction paper and write a summer poem on the stripes.
Enjoy finding creative writing opportunities for your children this summer!
