Luceat Lux Vestra
Luceat Lux Vestra. (Let your light shine.) is the theme for Cedar Valley Catholic Schools and the 2022-2023 school year. Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” As we embrace this theme into our school masses, teaching, and activities planned throughout the upcoming school year, our staff has designed banners and placed them throughout our campuses incorporating their fingerprints as rays of light and showcasing their commitment to students regarding our school wide theme. God calls us to let our light shine, how will you let your light shine?

Pep Rally
School spirit was on display last Thursday during our first pep rally of the year. The band performed, cheerleaders taught the students a new routine for Friday’s football game, and our robotics team showcased their talented robot. A few members of the volleyball team warmed up for their Thursday night match with a challenge against a faculty squad that is still icing its arms and legs.
A reminder that quarter 1 mid-term grades are Thursday, September 22nd. As we enter into the second half of the first quarter, this is a good time to review your student's grades in PowerSchool. If you have concerns, consider reaching out to your child's teacher.
Picture re-take day
Students wishing to retake school pictures may do so on Wednesday, October 26th.
Professional Development
Next Friday we have our first staff professional development day of the school year. These days, which are scheduled monthly, are no student attendance days to allow for our teachers to participate in continuous learning and practice strategies to help us reach our building / system goals. These dates will be noted in our upcoming events portion of the newsletter each month for your review. Please note that these dates are not student attendance days and there will be no academic programming at the school on these dates.
Homecoming Week
Our student government and lighthouse students are hard at work planning the 2022 homecoming events! Voting for court is taking place this week, with votes being completed tomorrow.
The dance will take place at CHS on Saturday, October 1st from 8:00-11:00pm. Tickets are on sale this. Guest forms are available in the office, and are due back by Wednesday, September 28th-- this is a hard deadline.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Members of the Columbus Catholic football team helped Cedar Valley Hospice set up for its Remember and Release event this past Sunday at the Riverloop Amphitheater. The Sailors picked up their first win of the season on Friday, 21-7, at Vinton-Shellsburg.
SUPPORT OUR SENIORS
Stop by Oppold Gymnasium on Tuesday night as we honor the seven seniors in our volleyball program. The JV match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a sophomore match at 6:25 p.m. Our Senior Night recognition ceremony will take place at 7:10 p.m. and the varsity match with Oelwein is slated to begin at 7:40 p.m.
CROSS COUNTRY
Returning members of the cross country program lowered their times over the previous season during meets at Benton Community and Starmont this past week. Theodore Ahern set an all-time personal best by 38 seconds at Benton and placed 13th out of 75 varsity runners. Jace Matern was seventh and Brock Hagedorn finished 15th. Peter Minard, Jalen Hart, Maximo Zuniga and Jacob Berumez joined that group by knocking over one minute off the times they recorded on the same course a year ago.
Stella Ludwig and Claire Schaefer earned medalist honors in the JV girls race on Tuesday at Starmont with top 20 finishes against a field of 136. Nick Berumez recently completed his first 3.1 mile race and Abby Rhomberg also completed her first two cross country races over the past week.
