A Message from Mrs. Rittmiller
Greetings Families,
The saying goes, "Winter forms our character and brings out our best!" This winter has brought many days of beautiful snow to allow for snow forts, snow people, and many days of shoveling!
The students continue to build, rebuild and mold the snow hills at Bridges into new worlds daily!
January is a huge month of growth academically, emotionally and for some physically. It has been amazing to meet with our grade level staff and celebrate the hard work of the students and to see their growth! We have just completed our winter DIBELS assessments and we are preparing our Core Knowledge and Writing projects for our Bridges Showcase on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 pm. Please see the flyer below for more information.
A huge thank you for all the hours of work from our staff to ensure each child is getting what is needed daily! Parents, once again your partnership is so valuable.
Working together,
Jody Rittmiller, Principal

An Update from Counselor Olivo:
In my January counseling lessons, we focused on social-perspective taking and empathy. We talked about how empathy is understanding how someone else feels. Students learned that having empathy helps us be better classmates, friends and people. All students learned:
- We can decipher how people feel by looking for clues in their facial expressions, body language, words and tone of voice.
- We can make connections with how someone feels if we have had a similar experience or if we "put ourselves in their shoes" by imagining what it could feel like.
- We can show care for someone based on how they feel. There are lots of ways to show we care: helping them, asking how they are feeling (or if they are okay), taking with them, listening to them, sitting with them, giving them space if they don't want to talk or be with anyone, doing something kind for them.
Second through fifth graders also learned:
We can usually guess how someone is feeling based on the clues we see and hear, but we don’t know for sure how someone is feeling unless we ask them.
Not everyone feels the same in every situation. There are lots of different perspectives. It’s okay for people to feel differently than others.
As always, please let me know if there are ways that I can be supporting your child and their social and emotional well-being. I am available by email or phone (email is usually the easiest way to get ahold of me since I am split between two buildings).
Thanks so much!
