Next Week in Second Step:
One rule we have at our school is “Live Safely”. Safe actions keep everyone’s bodies from being hurt. When we act in safe ways, we keep our hands to ourselves and don’t use them to touch others in hurtful ways. When we use safe words, we make sure nobody’s feelings are hurt. Safe words are kind and respectful. This week, think about how you can act and speak in safe ways in the classroom, hallway, and lunchroom and out at recess.
Meet Our New School Nurse, Erin Tabarrok
Hi there! I am Nurse Erin, and I am so thrilled to be with you this year at Serene Hills!
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 15 years, earning my degree from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I was born and raised in New Orleans but moved to Austin shortly after college to work at the brand new Dell Children's Hospital in their Pediatric ICU. There, I met my husband, who is now a physician in their Emergency Room.
We have gone on to have 4 amazing girls: Leila, Quinn, Remi, and Baby Lucy. We love hiking in the cold, swimming in the hot, and anything outside in between! Nothing makes me happier than a beautiful sunrise or sunset (thank you, Texas!) and just being with my family.
I am so excited to start my new chapter of nursing in the best school ever with your kiddos (and 2 of my own!). I absolutely love caring for children and I feel so blessed for the opportunity to care for yours! I am so thankful for all of the support I've received so far and I look forward to a happy and healthy school year.
Please feel free to contact me anytime!

Meet Our New PE Student Teacher, Nina Danilovich
Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Nina Danilovich and I will be student teaching in Danielle Zibilski's P.E. class this semester! I am a senior at Concordia University Texas and am looking forward to working alongside Coach Z and Coach Hursh over the next eight weeks here at Serene Hills Elementary! I will be graduating in December and look forward to having my own P.E. classroom soon.
In addition to student teaching here at Serene Hills, I coach gymnastics at Austin Elite Gymnastics here in Lakeway! In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with friends, family and my boyfriend and taking advantage of the outdoors.
I look forward to getting to know the Serene Hills families and community! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at:
Here’s to a great start of the Year!

Reminders from Ms. Lei
Smart Tag dismissal can be confusing and I am here to help. Please call the office or email me at Johnsonle@ltisdschools.org if you have any questions.
We set the default dismissal for your student at the beginning of the year. If you ever want to change it, you will need to let me or the teacher know. This is how teachers know how students get home every day - they determine what line to put them into for dismissal.
Dismissal changes (same thing as exceptions) can be made by you whenever you want to
change how your child is going home. You can also do a dismissal change if they are absent.
**If you have a bus rider, please add a dismissal change for the weeks that your
route is not available**

FRESH START RUN CLUB IS BACK!
Dear Parents,
Kids and parents have been asking, and we have settled into the school year, so run club is back! S.H.E. run club is open to 1st-5th graders who would like to start their mornings off with a run on the track. We are going to meet in the mornings from 7:20-7:40. Students will drop their backpacks on the picnic tables outside the café and head up to the track. All are invited. No need to sign them up. Students must be on time. If they come after 7:25 we will send them to class. We will kick off the first spring run on September 6th. Please be on time!
I would love to have some extra parents help supervise with me. (Pick any day, I don’t need to know in advance, but you must sign in through the front office.)
Your child will need to be dressed PE ready. It is a privilege to come to the run club. Students’ behavior and effort must meet expectations.
Run club helps students get a fresh start to their morning and enter the classroom ready to learn.
All 1st-5th grade levels can come Monday-Thursday. If it gets too crowded we will split it up. We will not meet on Fridays.
If it is rainy or the weather is below 40 degrees we will not meet.
I am looking forward to working with your kiddos and helping them start their mornings off on the right foot!

DISCOVERY/GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM: PARENT REFERRAL INFORMATION - DEADLINE 10/21
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via this google form.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit their google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator.
Parents can submit referrals for screening up until the end of the first 9 weeks, by October 21, 2022. Students will be tested during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the student will have to wait until the next year's screening opportunity, as the spring screening session is only for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed.
The forms and further information about the program can be found here.
Once the request is submitted through the google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email when the testing dates are set and share additional information. Please plan to attend the Elementary GT Parent Night (virtual event) on October 14 at 11:30 AM for an informative presentation about the program along with a Q&A session with your campus GT teacher.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator directly, at any time, with questions. Please reference the contact information below:

Lake Travis ISD ESSER Stakeholder Feedback
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As you may already know, Lake Travis ISD applied to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The intent and purpose of the funding is to sustain the safe operation of schools and address student learning needs as a result of COVID-19.
As a part of ongoing ESSER provisions, the District is required to review and revise, as applicable, its plan every six months—including receiving stakeholder input to assist us with prioritizing ESSER funding and developing our Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
In an effort to obtain parent and community feedback, we have developed a survey linked below. Please take a moment to share your input and opinions. Responses are due by Friday, September 23, 2022 and will be reviewed and taken into consideration as the District updates its plan. Your participation and feedback are valued and appreciated.
