Welcome back Kahla Knights!
Words from Mr. Maddox
Welcome back Knights!
As the principal of this amazing school, Kahla, I feel honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work with such outstanding students, staff, parents and community members. I am fortunate to be able to share my passion for public education with such a dedicated, supportive and hardworking group. I am confident that we will have a productive and enriching year as we continue our mission of developing a community of learners in an ever-changing world using self-discipline, motivation, and excellence.
As we continue the 2021-2022 school year, I am hopeful and thankful for the opportunity to engage and provide instruction to staff and students. Many of our students explored the virtual options that were provided to them last year, so I am excited for their return to the building. COVID-19 has set back learning for all learners from rising rates of depression and anxiety to the loss of student learning. However, the Kahla staff is ready to “Stand in the Gap” to assist our students. As the Principal at Kahla MS, I am always excited about the positive changes and variations that each school year brings. It is an honor and privilege to be part of this great learning community.
As we work our way through September and the rest of the school year, let us welcome and marvel at the seasons’ changes. It has been said change is inevitable; growth is optional. I encourage you to help your children see and accept new situations and challenges as opportunities for growth.
#1 Fan,
Virgil Maddox
Accelerated Instruction Parent Waiver
Parents,
If you received a yellow Accelerated Instruction Parent Waiver, please read carefully, check one option, sign and return it to school with your student as soon as possible so that we may begin the process of creating the necessary groups needed.
Dear Kahla Knights,
We’ve experienced a great start to the school year! We are looking forward to welcoming you to our annual Open House that will take place on Thursday, September 9th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Students will bring home a flyer and a hard copy of their schedule home on Wednesday, September 8th.
*Helpful Hint! Please bring a copy of your child’s schedule (or your student) in order to skip the schedule line and report directly to the classrooms when you arrive.
As a reminder, Open House is designed to provide families with general information about your student’s classes and teachers. If you need to meet with a specific teacher about your student, please schedule a conference by either emailing the teacher or calling your child’s counselor. We are looking forward to welcoming our Knight families Thursday, September 9th!
Additionally, we are providing food trucks for you to purchase dinner for you and your family!
Thanks for your partnership, and please remain connected by following our students’ and staff’s celebrations on Facebook and Twitter at @kahlams. You can also visit our school website at https://www.cfisd.net/kahla
All schools and facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day. We will see you back on Sept. 7!
2021-2022 Bell schedule
school hours 7:20 am - 2:50 pm
Doors will open to allow car riders and bus riders to enter the building at 7:00AM. Students must wait outside of the building until 7:00AM.
Prevention
- Students and staff must screen daily (prior to entering a school bus or school) for symptoms of COVID-19 and should not report to school or work until symptoms resolve.
- Students at school who show symptoms of COVID-19 will be evaluated by the nurse. The nurse will determine whether that child can remain at school.
- Before a student or staff member may return to school, established criteria must be met as stated in the “Students Return to School Protocol” and “Staff Return to Duty Protocol
Health & Hygiene Practices: Masks
- Face masks are optional for all students and staff.
- Face masks must meet the “Student Code of Conduct” and dress code requirements.
CLEAR BACKPACK POLICY
Upon entry into the school, all extracurricular activity bags must be stored in lockers or designated areas. All bags are subject to search. Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students in grades 6-12 will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags and purses, will be 6” x 9”.
Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional backpacks.
WATER BOTTLE FILLING STATIONS
The district has installed 4 water bottle stations at Kahla.
The standard drinking fountains will be turned off so students will need to bring a water bottle from home each day. Water bottles must be taken home daily for washing. We ask that these be filled before coming to school to avoid a crowd of students needing to fill them first thing in the morning.
Water Bottle Guidelines:
- No larger than 24 oz.
- Transparent (only water allowed in them during the day)
- Must be a plastic bottle that is completely sealed
- Clear with no color
