On-Campus Technology Procedures
District Laptop use in the On-Campus learner setting
As a school, we’ve checked out over 370 laptops to students. Wow! Many students are still using them as virtual learners, however many of these laptops are now with on-campus learners. These devices will continue to stay checked out to these students. In order to maximize the use of all of our technology, students are able to bring these district laptops to school with them. Here are the basic guidelines:
Students will bring the laptops in on Monday and will leave them at school throughout the week until they take the laptop home on Friday
Please have students carry these devices in a backpack in order to keep them as safe as possible when transporting them from home.
Students do not need to bring their charger with them to school.
The checked-out laptops will only be used by the student who it is assigned to. No other students will use the assigned laptop.
Students may take their district laptop home with them on Friday.
In the event that a student needs to change their method of instruction during the school week, parents/guardians may come and pick up the laptop.
On-campus learners who do not have a district device can be assigned to use one of the classroom desktops or they may bring their own device pending RLES’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device):
We have developed a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) system for technology for students as they return to campus. This is completely optional for parents, but if you would like to send a personal technology device for your child, please complete the permission form below.
On-Campus Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
- Rowe Lane's front doors will be open to students at 7:05 a.m. Students who arrive prior to 7:05 will be asked to wait outside the building on a "wait spot" to maintain social distancing.
- Upon arrival, students will sit on a "wait spot" outside their classroom until 7:20.
- Students will enter their classrooms at 7:20 to unpack and eat breakfast. Breakfast is free of charge for all students this school year.
- Staff arrival teams will support students in locating their classrooms.
Parents/guardians are unable to enter the building for morning drop-off.
On-Campus Dismissal
- 2:42 Bus riders will be dismissed
- 2:45 EDP & daycare students will be dismissed
- 2:48 5th grade bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
- 2:50 4th grade bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
- 2:52 3rd grade bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
- 2:54 1st grade bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
- 2:56 2nd grade bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
- 2:58 Pre-K & Kindergarten bikers, walkers, and parent pick-ups will be dismissed
Parents/guardians are unable to enter the building for afternoon dismissal.
Bikers & Walkers
- Students will exit through the side South doors and be dismissed at the bike racks.
- Students walking home with siblings will wait in the interior of the primary playground wall until all siblings are together.
The grassy area near the bike racks and the sidewalk along the bus lane will be off-limits to parents/guardians. Only student bikers and walkers will have access to the sidewalk to support a safe dismissal for our children.
Parent Pick-Up
- Parents who plan to pick up their child in-person will wait in a designated grade level area on the front lawn. Teachers will release students to parents as they walk by the designated pick-up areas. Orange cones with grade-level signs indicate where parents need to wait to support social distancing measures when picking up your child/children.
- Parents who plan to pick up their child by car will wait in the carline. Students will be seated on "wait spots" with their class in front of the school building.
Classroom teachers will provide families with student pick-up tags to assist with parent-pick up during dismissal. Place the pick-up tag in a visible area of your car dashboard or hang on the rear-view mirror. Families picking up students in-person will present the pick-up tag to their child's teacher.

Superintendent Updates 9/16/2020
Dear PfISD Parents and Guardians,
We welcomed back up to 25% of students to our campuses yesterday, and I can't say thank you enough to our teachers and staff for working so hard to make that transition such a success! We saw lots of smiles through those masks! Drop-off went smoothly, and teachers took time to help their students transition to the adjustments we have made at each of our campuses.
I also want to thank our parents for their patience as any task of this magnitude won't be without a few hiccups. We are all learning and making adjustments as we go, and we will work together to make Phase 2 of our Return to Learn plan successful.
While we did have some students return, most of our learners are remaining at home for virtual learning. Our teachers and staff will continue to provide them with their lessons online. Whether we are together in person or online, learning will not stop.
During the first two weeks of our Phase 2 plan, we will continue to assess the situation and current conditions to determine if we need to change our student capacity on campuses. We will provide more information on our next steps when they are available.
Canvas Launch Date Set
We are excited to announce that our PfISD teachers have begun training on Canvas, our new platform for virtual and blended learning. Please take a moment to review this introductory video about our new learning management system, Canvas. Creating a Canvas account and signing up as an observer in Canvas is available now to parents and guardians. Observers can link their Canvas account to their student's accounts to see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course content. Observers can view the course content but cannot participate in the course. To observe a student, you must have a student pairing code. The linked guide and video will show you how to get a code, sign up for a parent or guardian account, and become an observer.
Starting on Oct. 13, Canvas will be the primary way students in 2nd grade through 12th grade receive instruction and turn in schoolwork while participating in virtual learning. Students participating in on-campus learning will continue to use Canvas 20-30% of the time, primarily to access assignments. Students in grade PreK through 1st will continue to use Seesaw as a learning management system. We will provide training for students on Canvas before Oct. 13 to access their new Canvas account. Again, as a parent or guardian, Canvas will allow you to observe your child's classwork, assignments, and grades. You can use these instructions (English), Instructions (Spanish), or this video to set up a Canvas account to observe your students.
If you have any questions or problems with setting up your Canvas account, please utilize our Let's Talk system and select Canvas.
COVID-19 Dashboard
Pflugerville ISD has launched a COVID-19 Dashboard, providing both district and campus counts of NEW lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases and direct exposures. This dashboard is updated weekly to correspond with submissions to the Texas Education Agency. Please note we are only tracking cases for on-campus learners and on-campus staff. District communication will be provided to the students/staff who have come in direct contact with a student/staff member who was lab-confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Campus Visitors
At this time, the district is not allowing any non-essential visitors on campuses. Unfortunately, this means parents and guardians cannot have lunch with their students, among other visits. We are sorry, but for our students and staff's safety, we cannot permit visitors at this time that are not absolutely essential.
District Academic Advisory Committee Members Needed
The District Academic Advisory Committee still has a few parent or guardian, business, and community vacancies open. If you are interested in serving on the PfISD DAAC, please complete the DAAC membership application. Application forms will be kept on file for two years. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee service selection, but the application will be considered.
The following criteria apply to specific membership categories:
- Parents or guardians must live within the district and must be a custodial parent or guardian of a student currently enrolled in a district school. Parents or guardians may not also be PfISD employees.
- Community members must live within the district. Community members may not also be parents or PfISD employees.
- Business representatives need not live or work within the district. Business representatives may also be parents or guardians.
Again, our teachers and staff worked so hard to make our first day back with students on campus a huge success! They put so much into each of their campuses to develop a plan that would work for their building, traffic pattern, parents, and students. I am so proud of their efforts and the thought that went into making this a reality.
I also don't want to forget our parents' efforts who have been working to make sure their children are ready to learn every day.
Even though this year may look different from any other year when it comes to school, we will keep pushing to make sure our students receive what they need to succeed, whether they are on-campus or online learners.
Together we are strong. Together we are a Pfamily. Together we can do anything.
In the best interest of children,
Dr. Douglas Killian
PfISD Superintendent of Schools
