Getting Organized with Google Keep
Overview
How do I begin to create a note in Google Keep?
Creating a Google Keep is easy to do. You will want to go to keep.google.com to begin. This is not one of the apps that is listed among Docs, Forms, Sheets, and Slides, but can easily be added by navigating to the waffle and selecting Keep from those options. Once you arrive at the Google Keep site, you are met with a rather simple interface to begin creating notes and tasks.
Options available on the Keep creation window
When you first go to create a note in Google Keep, you are presented with three options in the main window.
Title: As with any Google creation, you can give each note in Keep a title.
Take a Note: This is the creation zone, where your notes will appear.
Done: Once you’re completely finished with your note, this button will change your note to a thumbnail in your list of items in Keep.
Options available with each note
As you are creating, there are several options in the bottom of the creation window that you can utilize at any point of the process. There are so many options available with Keep, including sending them to a Google Doc for even further editing, but the options are:
Reminder: Google Keep lets you send reminders to yourself to complete the tasks on the list.
Share: The biggest benefit to Keep is the ability to collaborate with others on an individual note or list. This is my favorite option of Keep, as you can Share each individual note with one or several different students/teachers.
Change Color: This button allows you to change the note color, and to color-code them accordingly.
Add Image: If you’d like to add visuals to your notes, this icon will allow you to upload photos from your computer.
Archive: If you’d like to save your notes for a later time, you can simply archive them by clicking this icon.
So, how can I use it in the classroom?
1. Create to-do lists of project benchmarks, homework assignments, or chapter questions.
2. Color code notes for easy organization.
3. Create chapter notes in a simple, easy to use format.
4. Collaborate with classmates/teachers on notes
5. Create voice notes with the voice recorder.
6. Upload pictures and take notes over them, or you could upload a graphic and have students take few notes or outline a few key points about the image.
7. Collaborate with others on task.
8. Students can generate homework lists, or notes of interest to remember as they're completing a project.
