What is a Retail store Management role?

Salary and Hours
Salary
- Starting salary between £20,000 and £30,000 per year
- Assistant position ranges between £17,000 and £23,000 per year
- Experience position £35,000 to £60,000 or even £70,000 in larger store per year

Store atmosphere - The over all feel when you go into the store.
- The manager and the staff are in charge f this making sure that the music is on, the staff have a welcoming approach, and all the clothes are picked up off the floor so when customers come in they dont walk straight out.
Cash handling - Cashing up and counting the cash (cash flow).
- A staff member and one other person whether that's a manager or another member of staff, there should always be two or more people counting the money as if it doesn't add up then they can get the other person to check.
Visual Merchandising - The store layout and window displays and decoration.
- Visual merchandiser personally or someone who is trained or training, this would be the store assistant that has been asked to rearrange the store to the layout that meets the guidelines that has been sent.
Customer service - Greeting, serving and helping customers

- This is down to the store manager training the staff correctly and then the sales assistants to maintain the information they are given and using it to welcome custoemrs and helping them when needed.
Loss prevention and security - Keeping the store secure and preventing thefts.
- This is down to the security guard to stop people that when they walk past the security barrier the security guard must stop them and ask to search their bags. It is also the responsibility of the sales assistants to detect any out of the ordinary behaviour.
Returns and refunds - Statutory rights a consumer has, legal right to be able to return something if it is faulty and having a right to exchange something within a time period
- Store manager if needed, the customer may not always be satisfied which the service that they are getting from the sales assistant so they will ask for the manager.
Staff recruitment and training - Employing staff, in store and head office.
- This is down to the store manager or head office as the wold like the best for their store/s.
Stock management - Keeping store stocked with the right goods.
- Store manager to make sure they have everything they need in stock.

- Reviewing performance that should be the natural activity for any manager to carry out
- To be successful
- Coaching which improves individual performance and principal investment from the manager in time
- Counselling helps managers create a closer working relationships with individual team members, especially if a team member needs support
- Organisation with lunch breaks making sure that each member of the team gets an equal amount depending on the hours that they work
- Getting members of the team to understand the coinciquences of their actions if they were to do anything the should have done
