Schools of Choice for 2020 -2021

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is a participant in Schools of Choice 105 on a ‘limited’ basis, limited meaning not all buildings and grade levels will have openings. Typically we accept applications for grades K-10. Under Schools of Choice 105 we may enroll students who are not residents of our district but still reside in one of the other 27 Oakland County school districts who meet application guidelines.

The application period for the 2020-2021 school year will be January 20 through February 7, 2020. By law, applications cannot be accepted before January 20 or after February 7, 2020.

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools does not participate in Schools of Choice 105C which means we do not accept applications from residents who do not live in Oakland County.

Schools of Choice 105 applications for the 2020-2021 school year will be available on our website, www.wlcsd.org beginning January 20, 2020. Please check back then or call Patty at 248.956.2085 for more information.

Note: If you are currently a resident of the district and anticipate moving out of the district during the school year, it may be possible for your children to continue their enrollment in Walled Lake under Schools of Choice 105 if:

  • You are still residing within one of the other 27 Oakland County school district boundaries
  • The building and grade level you want is open for application (you may end up on the waiting list if a lottery is necessary)
  • Meet the application requirements
  • Your application is submitted during the application period (January 20 – February 7, 2020)
  • Your application is approved

Two Hour Delay Procedures

As the winter weather continues to throw us curve balls, please review the procedures regarding a two hour delay:

From the District Website:

On rare occasions, morning conditions occur that temporarily prevent the District from safely transporting students or requiring students to wait at a bus stop or walk to school. These conditions typically involve thick fog, winter weather or utility problems and historically required cancellation of school for the entire day. Beginning this year, Walled Lake Schools has developed a two-hour delay procedure that could be used if conditions are expected to improve within two hours. This procedure, which will be used sparingly, will permit students to get to school safely and allow the District to conduct a credited day of school.

Parents are encouraged to develop a plan so their children can safely stay home for an additional two hours in the morning and have them go to a trusted alternate location to await the delayed start of school.

Families will be notified via Skyward (phone system and email) in the event of a two hour delay.

Food Allergies at Oakley Park

Please be aware that we have several children at Oakley Park that have life-threatening allergies to various foods containing products such as peanuts, nuts and dairy. Some may neither eat, touch nor even inhale the aroma of these foods without life-threatening consequences. As a result, it is imperative that we all keep this in mind when planning for any food brought into school.

We are asking for your help and cooperation as we work together to keep all of our students safe. Please remember this serious allergy situation when sending any food to school with your child. Parents are encouraged to make alternative choices when sending food to school with their children.

Although Oakley Park is not a nut/dairy free building, we must keep these products out of the classrooms that could cause a negative reaction. A detailed letter was sent to families in the those classrooms that have specific restrictions based on students needs. All students will participate in a discussion about the special prevention measures to help ensure the safety of all classmates. This will be an age appropriate explanation that may need reinforcement at home.

We have designated certain areas and classrooms in the building as "allergen free".

Allergic students will receive close supervision during lunch and on field trips, and will be eating in an area where food products that pose a danger to them are not allowed. There is an emergency plan in place for unexpected exposure, but our most effective tool is prevention and education.

We appreciate the support of families in helping to minimize the possible exposure for these children. As always, the health, safety, and well being of each and every child at our school continues to be of the utmost importance to all of us.
