Teens & Main Circ

Thanks to Christina for working the SOMS Literacy Night with me on Tuesday night. The event was well-attended, despite the bad weather. We had a great time talking to families about Summer Reading and signing them up for library cards.

Coming Up:

· More and more summer reading presentations, so I’ll be in and out

· Friday, May 20th—the Spring Jazz Café will be at the Main Library at 7 p.m. This is a fun night out provided by the talented kids of the OCHS Jazz Ensemble and singers from the OCHS choir as well.

Thanks!

Summer is coming!

We are busy finishing getting everything ready for the Summer Reading Program. Lots of packets to put together, last minute planning for programs, updating of calendars, and the endless proofing of everything! We have been promoting the SRP at schools already and have started handing out reading logs. If anyone tries to bring one to turn in, remind them that it begins June 4th.

I will be out of town beginning on Wednesday, May 18th for 2 weeks because my mom is having her knee replaced on May 19th. It is really a terrible time to be gone, but my poor mom can barely hobble about. So if you need anything between May 18th and June 1st, talk to Melinda or Susan B. I will also have my cell phone with me and can check email while I am gone.

Have a great rest of May and I’ll see you in June!

Mahan Library

The Mahan staff has been working diligently at removing the alternate IDs from patrons’ accounts, and the project is now almost finished. Thanks to the staff for their hard work on this. Thanks also to Lisa, Kendra, and Elizabeth for removing the gunk left behind on audio books after I removed the 14-stickers. Thank goodness for Goo Gone—which not only is effective, but also has a pleasant smell. (I swear we used to have a cleaner at Main that worked incredibly well but literally smelled like gasoline. When you were finished cleaning, you had to take the paper towel you had used and throw it away in a different room!)

Thanks to Karen for pointing out that the American flag we fly outside the building had a tear in it. I bought a new one that should last us for a while. Thanks also to Trisha for making sure the old flag is disposed of in the proper way.

See you next week!

Main Library

April’s circulations were up 4% over last year. Good job! Everyone did a super job entering the daily circ stats. I really appreciate this. Having to go back and gather numbers is no fun! Thanks for your efforts.

I had a really good time last week while I was off. Thanks to all for being so great, I never worry about you and the library when I am off. That’s worth a lot. I’m looking forward to Vicki M’s and Julie R’s tablescape at the luncheon tomorrow. I’m working Saturday so don’t hesitate to call if you need me. Have a great weekend.

Did someone lose a ring? This was found in the staff restroom at Main. Markitha has it if anyone needs to claim it!

By the time you’ve read this, the SRP app has (hopefully) been submitted to the app stores. It will take several days to process through, but I’ll let you know when it is available to install.

I am on vacation starting Friday! I’m actually leaving the state for my first real vacation trip in 5 years. I am very excited, and as such, will be doing my best not to be reachable (other than letting you know when the app is available). I will be returning May 23rd.

Finally, we are very sad to be saying goodbye to Melissa Brown. She and her husband will be moving, and as such her last day is June 9th. Please join me in wishing her the best!
