Holiday Lights Recycling Program
This Holiday Season, HSE is asking you to give a gift to the Earth by making the choice to be more sustainable. HSE Schools will be hosting a district wide Holiday Light Recycling Program. Starting December 5th and going until January 13th each school will be collecting old, broken, tangled, or unwanted holiday lights. Technology Recyclers will take these unwanted/unusable lights and break them down into useable components that will be used to make new products.
- This will be the third year for the holiday light recycling program!
- During the 2020/2021 season you helped collected and recycle 3,519 pounds of holiday lights!
- During the 2021/2022 season you helped collect and recycle 4,711 pounds of holiday lights.
- In two years of recycling holiday lights, you have helped recycle the equivalent weight of a Ford F250.
- Your small choices have helped prevent a total of 8,230 pounds of plastic, metal, and glass from ending up in a landfill.
- You helped make a HUGE impact.
Fundamentals of Restorative Practices
Hamilton Southeastern Schools is offering a one-day training, Fundamentals of Restorative Practices, for parents/guardians of HSE students and community members who are interested in learning more about restorative practices. Participants will be able to understand the foundation of restorative practices and recognize how these practices cultivate relationships, repair harm, and restore connections. This workshop is identical to the training that district personnel received and will be facilitated by our district restorative practices team.
This training is limited to 50 participants who must have an up-to-date Safe Visitor background check and complete the online application that can be found here. We hope to have a diverse group of participants with representation from many of our schools.
- The training will be held on February 13, 2023 from 8:30am-4:30pm. Participants must be available to attend the full session to be considered.
- There is no cost to participate if you have a current background check on file. The deadline to complete the application is noon on January 13, 2023.
- To apply for consideration, click this LINK.
We are excited that our NBE PTO awarded the library a $500 grant to purchase 50 eBooks! We have chosen titles ranging from nonfiction animals, biographies, and historical topics to fiction graphic novels and series books. These books are at a variety of reading levels and interests, making them good choices for a variety of readers. Kids will be able to easily access the books from their Clever page. They can read the book, listen to the book, or listen with the words highlighted. These new titles should be available to students within the next couple of weeks!
Beginning Thursday January 5th, we will be offering snacks in the café! Students may purchase the snacks during lunch. The price will range from $1.00-$1.25 per snack.
If you wish to limit your child’s ability to purchase snacks you may do so in Skyward by clicking Food Service. From there, click on Set Purchase Limit. You will then be able to set a limit on Ala Carte purchases or block Ala Carte purchases completely. If you have any questions feel free to email Sheron McKernon at email@example.com.

Thanksgiving and Christmas DETAILS
We recommend that you apply ONLINE by the early part of November for Holiday Assistance.
GSN's signature holiday assistance program significantly impacts thousands of families every year. GSN clients are always able to receive food baskets for both Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Additionally, clients receive new or gently used toys and clothing for the Christmas season - as part of our Christmas Distribution.
In order to be considered for any GSN Holiday event - a yearly application is required. We prefer you complete the Holiday Assistance Application ONLINE. Contact the office if you need a paper copy, or visit any Hamilton County agency.
Everyone will receive some form of assistance from only ONE Hamilton County agency or source. No one will receive assistance without submitting an application (digitally/online or hard copy/mail).
Families will either be assigned to a 1) private sponsor (provided thru GSN) or 2) households will be assigned to GSN. Not both!

Snack Attack - Fishers Youth Assistance Program
NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. This program is open to students that qualify for the reduced lunch program or have an increased need currently.
To be part of this free program, you must sign up your family online. https://forms.gle/xrKNaxRaLypSqKvV8
