Citizenship, Taking Care, and Embracing Change

Dear Ben Franklin Families,

The end of another school year is drawing near...It's hard to believe, but true! May and June are a perfect time for students to review all of the traits that make up a person's good character. These Six Pillars of Character are an integral part of the lessons your child takes part in throughout the year. Guidance programs during these final months of school will focus on reminding students to continue to "take care" and be a good citizen.

Even the smallest person can make the biggest change by doing one simple thing. Smile at someone, hold open a door, share a toy, take turns and give someone else a chance to play, say hello to someone who is sitting by themselves, etc. These are all simple ways to be a good citizen. Challenge your children to "be the change you want to see in the world," as Gandhi once said.

May and June are an especially exciting time for our eldest BF students! Third graders are preparing for the end of their Ben Franklin careers and the beginning of an exciting journey to Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) and beyond. Although it is completely normal to have some jitters about the transition to a new school, encourage your children to embrace the change. Talk with them about any worries they might be having but also take time to focus on all the exciting new things waiting for them in Fourth grade.

Best wishes to you for a happy, healthy rest of the school year. Remember to take care of yourself and others during this busy, but fun time of the year.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Guidance Program.
