You all understood the assignment!

December was a month of giving- ELC families helping ELC families- and you all BLEW us away with your generosity! The Food Drive was a huge success! Our Helping Hands Club here at The ELC is making HUGE impacts across the community this holiday season! They conducted a food drive for the local pantry to help those in need during the holidays and cold winter months and look at all the items they brought in! We thank you for your food donations!

Our toy drive was also a huge success! Mrs. Helminski headed up the toy drive and has a special message to you all.

“WOW! I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the ELC families. Hobart Tri Kappa and I thank you immensely for the AMAZING toy donations. These toys will help bring lots of smiles Christmas morning for approximately 500 Hobart children. “
~ Mrs. Helminski

You all are amazing and we are so proud of all you did this holiday season to help those around you!

Reading right along

Your kindergartener is becoming a reader! By the end of the semester your child is expected to be able to read books at a level A and be able to read 14 sight words which are listed below. The list of sight words doubles by the end of the third quarter. By the end of the year your child will know nearly 40 sight words and reading a level C independently. Be ready to be impressed by just how much your child will learn in the last semester in kindergarten. This will be an important time of learning for your child, help support their achievement by committing to the weekly word wall contract and making reading a habit in your home. You can help with your child’s learning by practicing sight words each night, listening to them read, and reading and discussing books with them. It doesn't have to be the same thing each day, however reading should be included in your routine at home every day to insure success for your child.

Students "Traveled the World" this holiday season!

Kindergarten classes studied Holiday traditions around the world during their Holidays Around the World unit. They were given passports to keep track of the countries they visited and enjoyed stories, crafts, songs, and traditions that children in each country engage in for the holidays.

Book Fair Success!!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Our winter Book Fair was a great success! Thank you to all that sent money in for your child to shop and to all of you that volunteered your time to help out! There were SO MANY HAPPY kiddos and my heart was full seeing all the excitement the kiddos had over their new books! I also loved how many shopped for little brothers and sisters who were at home. They were so excited to take that perfect book they picked out for them home! Thank you all for making my first ever book fair a great success!

January 9th is National SRO Day!

SRO Joe does so much for us here at the ELC, so we wanted to dedicate this month's "Cuppa Joe" to saying Thanks for all you do!! Make sure you tell your kiddo to swing by Joe's office and give him a big old "THANK YOU!" one day this week! We sure are happy to have him!

2022 Readathon!

The 2022 Readathon is upon us and what a great way to spotlight the importance of reading by participating! The Lake County Public Library provides this program as way to raise funds for their organization as well as our school library. Look for permission slips to come home mid January. Once you turn in permission slip, your child will receive a pledge envelope to log entries and collect money. Have fun picking out books with lots of sight words your child has learned in school this year and watch their reading level soar! The LCPL awards really nice ribbons and trophies for participating.

Parent Teacher Conferences happening 1/28/22-NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS!

Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education! Your support will continue to be a vital component of your child’s success. You will receive your kindergartner's report card on January 21st. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held the following week on Friday, January 28th. Kids will not come to school this day! This will be an important way to communicate with your child’s teacher about his/her progress this school year. Discuss your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Celebrate successes this school year! Set future goals with your child and help him/her make a plan to reach those goals.

We do go outside to play!!!

As long as the real feel is above 20 degrees, we do go outside to play for recess! Please make sure your child has all the things needed for the cold. If you need assistance with obtaining any items for your child, please reach out to us at 942-7263.

The children may also play in the snow when we have it. To play in the snow, they MUST HAVE a winter coat, winter boots (NOT fashion boots), gloves, and a hat. It is a good idea to keep these items in a separate bag and teach them how to take the things off and place them in the bag as to not loose things. As with all their things, make sure they have their name on the tags for if they happen to get misplaced.

Emergency School Closing Information For Bad Weather

Please take a minute to familiarize yourself with our district's plan and policy on weather related school closings on our website. Should we need to cancel or delay school due to inclement weather, our district homepage will be updated with a pop up window that appears that day upon closure. We will also update our Facebook pages as well as make a district wide all call. In case of delay, all schools will begin 2 hours later than regular time. For the ELC, that is 11:10. Buses will arrive 2 hours later and breakfast will not be served, as we will be starting lunches upon arrival.
