Some important information for this week....
Thanks to everyone for your patience as we continue to practice our fire drills. You can expect one more "surprise drill" before the weather turns cold. There have been some great questions for alternate exit line up locations for the primary grades. For Grades 1 - 3, the alternate exit will remain the front doors by John's office, but please do not walk around the building to the back (in the case of a real fire, being so close to the building is NOT a good idea). Please proceed to the sidewalk along Kawartha Heights Blvd. Junior grades and Kindergarten classes, if this were to happen, please adjust your location to lining up along Applewood (from the stop sign back) so that we can accommodate all classes in front of the school).
Running Record Training Sessions at the Board office
As you are aware, it is a KPR expectation that all students are readers by the end of Grade 1 (level 16) . In order to support, the board office is offering Running record training sessions for any teacher that is interested. Please see the information in Edsby for more details.
Long Range Plans
Just a gentle reminders to please ensure your long range plans are in your OT binders this week. You don't need to give me a copy as well - I'll take a peek at the plans in the binders later this week.
Technology survey
I had the opportunity to meet with Cheryl, Katie, Kathy and Sheldon this past week. We have come up with an initial plan for Technology moving forward, but we want your input! Look for a survey to be posted in Edsby early this week. All feedback will be reviewed and then plans for moving forward will be shared at the Staff meeting next Monday.
Orange Shirt Day
Monday, September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. A you’re probably aware, this day is to educate and promote awareness about the Residential school system and the impact on the Indigenous community. The "official" website can be found at:

School Improvement Team
As a follow up to our PA day, please let me know if you are interested in representing your division (1 Kindergarten, 1 Primary, 1 Junior) at a SIT meeting this Friday (am or pm to be determined). Please let me know by the end of the day on Monday so that we can plan for the meeting.
Personalized cards for visual schedule
On Monday I'll put an "order form" in your mail box for any additional tags you may require for the KH visual schedule. In the meantime, please start using these tags in all classes.
Breakfast Program
A reminder that starting Monday morning, students will now need to ask permission to come and get food from outside the office. Until further notice, classroom trays will not be able to be delivered to each class.
Planning trips, events, etc. involving money
And another little reminder that until further notice, ANYTHING involving money will be very challenging. Please see me (with a bit of time in hand) if this is going to be an issue so that I can try to problem solve!
In School Student Meetings
Heather and I will be working on a schedule for Thursday's In-School Student Meetings - stay tuned. When it's your meeting time, please bring with you any data that might support discussions (notes, RR info, work samples, etc.). We are both looking forward to these important discussions with you!
IEP Update and Consultation Page
Thanks to everyone who joined Heather and I for IEP cafes this past week! For those that were not able to attend, I’m attaching a few notes of top things we discussed, as well as Annual Goals for modified and alternate pages that you can use as they are.
I know many of you are planning parent meetings in the next few weeks. A reminder to ensure that BEFORE parents sign them, it is imperative that I've had a chance to take a peek. Email me or let me know when you're ready for me to take a look. I would not want you to have parents sign off and then we have to make changes moving forward. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Paperbag Princess
Barring any job action issues, I have booked December 17th and 18th for the entire school to attend the Paperbag Princess. I'll provide you with permission forms, etc. closer to the date.
School Improvement Plan
Attached to this Monday Memo, please find an electronic copy of the Learning Goals and Success Criteria developed together at our PA day for Geometry and Spatial Sense. I look forward to doing my best to visit classrooms during your math blocks moving forward, as I learn alongside you.
Survey Monkey
Just a reminder to please complete the math survey monkey poll (if you teach math). This will help to guide us moving forward. For your reference, here is the link:
