Your Voice Counts!

Dear Parents,

Riverside was recently recognized as a Double Platinum Award School by the Georgia Department of Education. We are one of just four schools in the state to earn this distinction. Way to go Riverside students, teachers, and community!

Your input is an important factor in this recognition. Please take a few minutes to complete this year's Georgia School Climate Survey. It will be available through March 1, 2020.

Parent Input Survey for 2020-21 School Year

Parents of students in kindergarten through 4th grade have an opportunity to provide input for the most ideal learning environment for the upcoming school year. The survey below is optional and will be available through March 13, 2020.

In The Spotlight...

This week we celebrate Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass was born in Maryland. His mother was a slave and when Frederick was born, he became a slave, too. He secretly taught himself to read and write and then escaped from slavery. He spoke out for the freedom of slaves. Frederick Douglass believed in equal rights for all people.

Smencils for Sale!

Riverside students LOVE Smencils! You can tell by the pictures that Smencils were a hit. All proceeds from this sale went directly to 5th-grade programs. Check out all the action! Thank you students and PTA for the Smencil support!

Launch Pad Liftoff!

Mrs. Davis and her students had a fabulous day when they opened the Riverside Launch Pad school store during lunch. This opportunity teaches all students about life skills, communication, community involvement, supply and demand, and of course...money skills! Students brought dollars to lunch and shopped at the end of their lunch period. We love happy Riverside customers!

The school store will be open one time per month until the end of the school year.

For the sixth year in a row, Riverside PTA is partnering with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta by participating in Project Linus. Students are invited to make “no-sew” Linus Blankets out of fleece material for patients at a CHOA hospital. These blankets bring big smiles and warmth to children who may be scared or hurting during their hospital stay.

Fourth grade students will be receiving information about a special after-school opportunity that will be open to their grade only, but we want the entire school community to participate at home at their own convenience.

This is an easy, fun way to contribute to a very meaningful cause. There is no sewing involved and the only expense is the purchase price of the fleece, which can be found at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, or Joann Fabrics. For more details and complete instructions, please visit www.riversidepta.net or email Heather Sinyard at heather@sinyard.org.

Completed blankets may be dropped off in the school lobby anytime between now and Friday, February 28th. Thank you for your help with this worthy service project!

Drumming Up Stories

Dave Holland led kindergarteners in song through an interactive performance on Tuesday. He educated the students on various instruments from all over the world. He also encouraged them to think creatively and to use problem solving skills. Thank you PTA Academic Programs for this fun experience!
