Cowlishaw Birthday Book Club Is Back!!!
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A FUN WAY TO HONOR YOUR CHILD’S BIRTHDAY?
Cowlishaw’s LMC has the answer! Donating a book to Cowlishaw’s LMC helps to build our library collection and make your child feel special at the same time.
At some time during the month of your child’s birthday, we will invite your child to come down to the LMC and choose a book from the birthday cart. If your child’s birthday is in June, July or August, we will invite him or her to come down to the LMC during the month of his or her half birthday. There will be a flat $10.00 price for each book.
When your child chooses a book, we take his/her picture to put in the front of the book with a bookplate commemorating the donation. Your child’s name will go up on the Birthday Book Club bulletin board in the LMC, and your child will be the first to check out the book he/she chose! What an opportunity!
The registration for Cowlishaw’s Birthday Book club can be found in the PushCoin Webstore.
Please see the document below if you need help with accessing the Webstore:

Thank you for considering this program!
It’s a great way for your child to feel special and to support the Cowlishaw LMC at the same time.
Vision and Hearing Screenings
State mandated vision and hearing screenings will be taking place at Cowlishaw starting Wednesday, 9/8 - 9/15.
All students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, and selected students in grades 4 and 5 will be screened for hearing and/or vision. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them at school.
Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if a report from an optometrist or ophthalmologist has been completed/submitted to school (administered within the last 12 months). If an examination report is not on file at the school, students in the mandated age/grade/group will be screened.
If your child fails either of the screenings, you will be informed of the results.

Fall Benchmarking
We are in the process of administering our fall benchmark assessment for students Kindergarten through 5th Grade. These brief Illinois Learning Standards aligned assessments evaluate student academic performance and growth in the areas of reading and mathematics. Specifically, depending on grade level, literacy measures will assess vocabulary, phonological awareness, word recognition, reading comprehension and reading fluency. Additionally, depending on grade level, numeracy measures will assess number sense, operations, algebraic thinking, measurement/data, geometry, fractions and ratios/proportions. The assessment results are used by teachers and administrators to assist with instructional planning and differentiation at the grade, classroom and student level.
Should you have any questions regarding benchmark assessments please contact Danielle Culberson, Interventionist. danielle_culberson@ipsd.org
