Monday Memo
We Are Family - May 2, 2022
The first week of May is celebrated as Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers at Saint Susanna are incredible educators who love our students each and every day. I would encourage you and your students to write notes of appreciation to your child's teachers. I still have notes that I received years and years ago. They are precious to us as educators.
The May lunch menu is attached. Field day is May 24th and the date has been corrected on this menu.
God bless,
Janet Abdoulaye, Principal

Spring Book Fair
The Spring Book Fair will be Monday, May 9th through Thursday, May 12th.
It will be open from 7:45 to 4:00 PM each day. Family Night is Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. It will be held in the Spanish Room of the school (next to 1st grade classroom).
Website: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/stsusannaschool1 The website will also have the digital form of the flyer being sent home today, with videos!
The eWallet is the preferred form of payment for Scholastic items, please. Funds can be set up now through 5/12. This is also great for out-of-town friends and relatives who want to help your student grow their home library. You can forward the eWallet info to them and they can add funds securely.
There will be an All for Books fundraiser (Lollipop pull 50 cents each, cash please).
Online shopping is available 5/9 through 5/22. Over 5,000 items are available online. Scholastic is no different than many retail companies: They are impacted by supply chain issues as well. If items run out at the book fair, this is an excellent option (especially with so many items to choose from!). eWallet funds can be used. Free shipping with over $25 in sales. Ships to your home. Easy peasy!
Please continue to watch the Monday Memo for updates!
Thanks!

Plainfield Optimist Club Education Awards
Congratulations to the Optimist Club's Partners in Education Award recipients, Mrs. Rodebaugh and Mr. Fischer! Mrs. Rodebaugh teaches fourth grade and Mr. Fischer is our facilities manager. They were chosen by the staff members of Saint Susanna for their excellence in education and dedication to the students in our school. We are proud to call them Spartans!
Kindergarten Readiness Testing
Students who will be in kindergarten in the fall of 2022 AND are new to Saint Susanna, must signup for Kindergarten Readiness Testing with Ms. Flanigan and Miss Hoffman. Students who are currently in our PreK program will be tested during their regular school day. This test measures early literacy, writing, and math skills. This testing provides important information for our teachers for the fall.

First Grade Field Trip - Farm to Table, Indianapolis Fairgrounds
Our first graders participated in the Indianapolis Fairgrounds' Farm to Table experience last week. They learned about various farm animals and plants...and how these become the food that we eat! They loved the experience...and the bus ride!
Fourth Grade - Song Leaders
Many thanks to our awesome fourth graders for leading us in song at mass!
Safe Environment Training
In order to volunteer in our school building during the day or attend field trips as a chaperone, you must have a current safe environment training on file with us. This requirement includes safe environment training and a basic background check through the Archdiocese. The training and background checks are good for five years from the time of completion.
To check your current expiration date, contact Mrs. Carson at kcarson@saintsusanna.com
To obtain a new training and background check:
- Go to the website www.archindysafeparish.org
- Create an account as this is a new system. Previously the Archdiocese used a system called "Safe and Sacred."
- You will need a passcode in order to create an account. The passcode is Archindy2021
- Complete the background check for school or parish VOLUNTEER and select Saint Susanna as a recipient of your information.
- Complete the training video and questions.
Please allow up to two weeks for this process to be completed.

Easy Fund-Raising for Saint Susanna Catholic School!
Box Tops for Education
Here’s how it works:
- Step 1: Download the new Box Tops App (iTunes or Google Play) – it’s free
- Step 2: Create a username and connect it to your child’s school
- Step 3: Scan your grocery store receipt. Items with the new Box Tops label will be automatically credited to your school
Does this mean I should stop sending in my paper Box Tops that I have already clipped? No! Continue to send those to the school!
