WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!!

Tomorrow is the BIG Day!

Please take the time to read all of the information below before Monday morning.

Dear Parents and Students,

The 2018-19 School Year is HERE! Maybe you are happy that school has begun, maybe you are sad that summer break is over but , it is TIME!

We have been working hard over the last months to be ready for your children. We have a lot to look forward to. We have a wonderful new math curriculum for all of our students in K5 thru 8th grade. Our VPK class has a new supplemental curriculum for literacy. We have new student computers in our classrooms. We are FINALLY finished with the dreadful plumbing project that haunted us much of last year and during the summer. Our classrooms are ready for our newest family of CRUSADERS!

Our theme this year is IT’S TIME! And now it’s time to GET ACQUAINTED. We have lots of staff for you and your children to connect with and who will move mountains to give your children the best education possible. There are new students in almost every classroom. IT’S TIME for us all to get to know each other and learn to work together as a school family to make this school year THE BEST EVER!

If you attended MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT last week, you received a very detailed list of important things to know. If you take the time to read and understand this, it will make the beginning of school as easy as possible. I will include the link below for your convenience if you did not attend or somehow misplaced it.

There are a few things that you can expect:

  • There will be difficulty in the parking lot at arrival and dismissal while everyone figures out what they are doing and follows the procedures. Expect it, give yourself a little extra time, hHave patience, a smile and a positive attitude and I promise it will get better. Our teachers and staff in the parking lot need time to learn which cars and parents go with which students. Have your ID with you in case we ask for it. We do not recognize everyone yet.

  • There is not enough room in the parking lot or on the street for all of our parents to park their car and walk the kiddos into school. If your child is not a little child and is a veteran of Holy Cross, please drop off at the car line. Fraternity Baptist Church parking lot may be used but cars need to be gone by 8:45AM.

  • Not everything will be perfect but know that we are working hard to do the best job that we can. Understand that please and address issues appropriately and positively.

  • Your child’s best friend may or may not be in their class. While we take many factors into consideration when planning our classes, who is best friends with who is not one of the factors. You may have wished to have another teacher. Please note that these class lists are the result of a great deal of hard work on the part of myself and our teaching staff who offered their feedback as they best know their students. Having said this, there will be no change in class rosters except in the event of an error or omission on the part of the school.

Here is what you need to know right now:

  • School begins at 8:15AM.

  • Optional breakfast is available but your child must be in the cafeteria NO LATER THAN 7:50am. We have staff and helpers in the cafeteria. Parents, please drop your children off and leave. Do not linger. Please do not attempt to stay and feed your children or eat with them. If you want to do that, please eat at home.

  • When leaving our parking lot during arrival and dismissal, the exit is RIGHT TURN ONLY.

  • Unfortunately, we will not be selling items in the office between 7:30AM and 10:00AM on Monday or Tuesday as it will be too busy. If your child does not have PE attire or any other items during the first week, there will be no penalty.

  • There is EARLY RELEASE on Monday and Tuesday. PK, K4 and K5 are dismissed at 11:30. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th are dismissed at 11:45. 5th and up are dismissed at NOON.

  • In the morning, please drop off your children ONLY in the designated drop off area, nowhere else. It is clearly marked at the front of the school. This is for everyone's safety and also to keep the line moving. Please pull into the drop off line unless you are parking and walking in with your child.

  • We will make sure that all children make it to the right place. Just tell the student helpers the room number or teacher when you pull into the line.

  • Kindly have everything ready BEFORE you get to school, do not start when you pull into the parking lot.

  • At dismissal, please come into the parking lot AT THE CORRECT dismissal time. If you come into the line too early, there will be no space for the cars that belong there. For example, if your 2nd grade child is dismissed at 11:45, do not get in the line at 11:30.

  • If your child is not picked up at the correct time, he/she will go into the cafeteria for lunch and will be signed into after school care. Children may not wait outside for their ride.

  • After school care (OOS) is available every day that school is open and on teacher’s work days. If you will be needing OOS, please fill out an enrollment packet. There are requirements to participate in the reduced price grant funded program. Please read and understand. Yes, we know that the packet is very low and A LOT to fill out. We apologize for this, but it is required by the Children’s Trust, who partially funds our program so that we can offer it to you for a very low cost.

  • Anyone that comes to pick up a child MUST be on the authorized pick up list and MUST have ID. Please be sure of this before you send someone. We have 400 students and we will definitely not recognize every parent or guardian at the beginning of the year. Kindly be understanding of this. On any given day, our poor secretaries have an angry parent or guardian in front of them for this reason, but understand that are number one priority it protecting our students.

If you have read this far, thank you! You are a great parent!
