Soar With Four
Can you believe that we are only 19 school days away from Spring Break! This year is certainly going by quickly! Hopefully over the past few months you have heard the phrase “Soar with Four.” As you know, “Soar with Four” is our new initiative focusing on positive behavior interventions and supports. This initiative is based on the program called Positive Behavior Intervention Systems – referred to as PBIS. The purpose of a school-wide PBIS program is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm. By teaching behavioral expectations and recognizing students for following those expectations, there is an outcome of a much more positive approach rather than waiting for a misbehavior to occur and responding negatively.
We have been working as a school to reinforce our guiding principles of Soar With Four: be SAFE, be RESPECTFUL, be RESPONSIBLE and be KIND. Students are being recognized for demonstrating these school-wide guiding principles. Students earn “caught” Soaring with Four stickers and have their name entered into a weekly prize drawing. Students are also recognized through our Fantastic Falcon and STAR Student recognition programs. Classes earn Soaring Compliments from any staff member in the building when they are demonstrating the guidelines in and around the building. Once a class has acquired a certain number of compliments, they earn a class reward from the teacher.
We appreciate your support of our Soar With Four positive behavior program. We hope that you can also use our for guiding principles in your own home by reminding your student to Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Kind.
Have a great weekend and remember to Soar With Four.

STUDENT ILLNESS
To prevent the spread of disease and to protect your student, please keep your student home and/or make an appointment with your health care provider for the following symptoms:
- temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- severe sore throat, headache, or cough
- eyes with inflammation, redness, and watery or purulent drainage
- live head lice
- undiagnosed and/or untreated skin rash

If a student becomes ill during school, the parent/guardian of the student must be contacted before a student is allowed to leave the building. If your student is going to be late to school for any reason, please make sure and let our office know ahead of time (if possible) by calling our office by 9:00AM that morning. You can also email the office attendance staff directly at pemobley@vbschools.com as well as your student's teacher for any absence.
EARLY CHECKOUT....
Students will not be called out of class until a parent is present to sign them out. Please plan ahead for appointments, as we would like to minimize missed class time.
Watch D.O.G.S. Program
The PTA will be launching the Watch D.O.G.S.
(Dads of Great Students) program in January 2017.
What are the goals of a Watch D.O.G.S. program?
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ear to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S and how does Watch D.O.G.S. work?
Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official Watch D.O.G.s. school.
What do Watch D.O.G.S. do (while they at school)?
During the day, Watch D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.
