Get Whitt it!
we rise by lifting others
8/20/20
Well done...
A principal friend of mine passed away unexpectedly last Saturday. She woke up not feeling well, and by lunchtime, a blood clot traveled from her lungs to her heart and she was gone. I thought of her staff this week...and how hard it would have been to come back to work Monday...to start school with kids on Wednesday...with the loss so new and fresh.
Julie loved bigger than big and her favorite quote was "grace changes everything". May we remember that this year, more than ever. If you find yourself struggling, or are with someone who is in a season of struggle...grace. We are 7 solid days in...one week. Every single day you get a lil'stronger and get a li'more figured out. You've kept your head up and you've held your teammate's hands when you needed too.
We can make peace with the fact that sorrow and celebration can coexist together in a heart quite authentically.
We don’t have to pick one or the other. We can simply have both. And giving ourselves permission to have both is freeing on every level.
Thank you for doing more than just your "job". Thank you for making a difference.
Weekend working
This way you can turn off the alarm if you're the only one here, or set the alarm if you are the last one to leave. There is a whiteboard there where you can write your name, just in case you get dropped off. Then when you leave, erase your so people know whether or not to set the alarm.
Please see your team leader if you don't have the code.

Custodial duties
All classrooms, offices, and restroom are disinfected nightly.
All disinfectants used and supplied by WISD meet the EPA’s criteria for use against COVID‐19.
All custodians have been retrained on the proper use of our disinfectants.
Custodians who use the electrostatic misting systems have undergone retraining for proper use.
Custodial Expectations:
Most of your custodial services will remain the same.
Starting on 8/13, we will be moving at least one custodian from the second shift to a new day shift role that has been created to focus primarily on cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces throughout the day.
By reducing the night shift staff, there will be minor changes to the services provided at night. For example, we will now vacuum and dust your building on a weekly rotation and as needed but not everywhere every night.
Electrostatic misting will be done throughout the day in unoccupied areas and high touch surfaces, on a weekly rotating basis for all areas, and nightly in areas with shared equipment such as gyms, art rooms and computer labs.
Staff Expectations:
The disinfectant spray that was included in your WISD Teacher Care Kits is intended for disinfecting surfaces and objects throughout the day as needed by the teachers.
Teachers that have shared electronic devices in their rooms will be receiving alcohol based wipes to disinfect devices between users.
For proper cleaning and disinfecting of desks, all materials need to be removed from student and teacher desks.
Door placards are intended to be used as a means to restrict access to a room not as a notification of requested service.

Short Video to Watch!
Here is a short, 1 minute 17 second video, that talks about discrimination and harassment and how it fits in our board policy.
Here is the link: https://live.myvrspot.com/iframe?v=NTlmMDM3YmM1MGRkNDRhY2FkYjdlNzk3ODY4N2MxNjc
Our board policy prohibits discrimination and harassment. This is something that we will communicate yearly to our staff. Please watch this video by end of day on 8/20/20. It is short and sweet!

Lunch Change
Since classrooms are not vacuumed nightly, we are going to transition back to eating completely in the cafeteria starting tomorrow, 8/21.
See updated seating chart here for cafeteria tables. CLICK THE 'UPDATED' TAB AT THE BOTTOM FOR THE MOST CURRENT:) If there are hiccups, please let me know so I can adjust.
- We will call by PACK letter to maintain cohorts.
- We will call PACK letters A-B first. they will follow their evacuation route, account for kids, check in with Power over the walkie like normal, then return to the building.
- We will then call PACK letters C, D, E and repeat the process.
- Fire drills will be slower and not reflective of how a true evacuation would occur.
- Lock the door and turn out the lights
- Students REMAIN in seats/area
- Teacher will explain how and where the students would hide in the room and how they would gather closely together out of sight for an actual emergency
- Again, students remain in seats/areas
- Teacher explains how and where students would go in case of a severe storm

Worth a read
"Finally, if no one has said it today, you are doing enough. Chances are if you are reading this-you are doing more than enough. We have an incredible opportunity ahead to shape this unique school year to meet the needs of those we serve. And while that work won’t be easy-we need you, ready and rested to serve through this fall and beyond."
