What happened at school this week?
Want to get your kiddo talking about what they are doing here at school? Here are a couple questions/subjects to help guide the discussion:
* How can you tell if a book is fiction or nonfiction?
* I know you made a wallet this week, let's talk about coins.
* What did you do with your friends on the Global Day of Play?

This week:
This week we explored lots of literature that involved groundhogs. We reviewed features of fiction and non-fiction text. Students used the word because to explain their thinking as they identified text as either fiction or non-fiction.
The sight words for next week are: three, four, five
Sound Cabinet: j
In math we began the week by reviewing graphing skills. We made predictions and collected data from our friends about whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow. We also began to explore money. They learned a poem to help them remember about the value and appearance of each coin. They created wallets, sorted coins, did coin rubbings and played games, all to give them hands on experience with money.
We continued to work this week on our How To writing. We learned how to act out our How To writing to make sure we did not forget a step. Students also practiced using transition words.
Groundhogs have been fun to learn about this week. They are interesting animals. Did you know that the groundhog is related to the squirrel and whistle when they are scared?
It has been a great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!
