AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
I really appreciate seeing and hearing all of the collaboration during the faculty learning time on Wednesday. If you look at the screenshots taken over a several minute period during the collaboration you can see just how much great conversation were occurring. This is a great example of just how powerful google docs can be for a collaborative learning environment.
I hope that you all have a better understanding of how and why A-F is not what we are about in CSISD and specifically at AMCMS. We will always work hard to help our students to learn the standards and of course we will need to prepare them for the STAAR test because it is something we are required to do. What we will not do is allow ratings and preparing for the STAAR test to change HOW we NEED to teach so that our students LEARN for more than just a test.
This 1 minute video supports why that approach simply does not work if real learning is the goal.
Real learning occurs through conversations, application, collaboration, discovery, and practice.
As you take some time off I want to you relax and take a break. When you do think about school and your teaching again, I want you to think about how will you be able to create more opportunity for students to do the activities that lead to real learning. Active engagement in the learning activities is what leads to long term learning that lasts.
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff
Here is the John Tanner Video that I referenced on Wednesday. Make a cup of hot cocoa or cider and watch it.

Academic Tip of the Week
Looking for different ways to incorporate vocabulary into your lessons and activities?
Try This:
Associate vocabulary words to a graphic representation or an example to help with word meanings.
SPED Tip of the Week
Thanks for a great semester! We are looking forward to working together next semester to meet the needs of our students to help them learn and grow.
Enjoy the break, and we'll see you in January!
Wellness Tip of the Week
Constantly feeling guilty gnaws at your emotional well-being and causes negativity to snowball. “It can make you feel defeated, anxious, or even depressed,” says Susan Krauss Whitbourne, PhD, professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. And we often beat ourselves up for no good reason, she adds: “Most of the time, we manufacture guilt in our minds simply because of the ridiculous expectations we set for ourselves.” Yank yourself out of the spiral with this three-week plan to being your own best friend.
