July 9, 2015 Update for Concord Middle School
Capturing Kids' Hearts!
Please make sure you complete the short "yes or no" survey that Mr. Mabry has sent to everyone. We need your response either way. We must submit a final count to the trainers. Also, all details are included in his email, such as location and lunch plans. This will be a great start to our school year as we really learn together and affirm how to put students at the heart of all of our actions.
Student Story Needed - Urgent!
Think about your students from this past school year. Do you have a student story of perseverance, achievement, or an inspiring level of success that you feel is worthy of sharing? I know there are stories in your hearts, so please send me a brief email sharing your favorite story from this past year. I promise it's for a great reason!
Mark your calendar! August 1!
On Saturday, August 1, we will be hosting a Courtyard Cookout! The day will be spent cleaning up our courtyards and the front landscape of the school preparing for an awesome start for our students. Then we will have a cookout in the courtyard with our families. All staff and families are invited! Even if you don't have a green thumb, which I certainly do not, there will be some easy yet important tasks to help our students realize how important they are upon return from the summer. More details will come soon! We just wanted to be sure you got this on your calendar!
Administrative Team - Where can you find us?
As a note, we will be moving the Assistant Principals and Dean of Students into office areas on the grade level hallways. We are being creative with their new locations, but we feel this will help student behavior management during transitions as well as increase accessibility for staff.
Leadership at CMS
We will be creating more opportunities for leadership within the school as well as dividing out the governing tasks of these leaders so that more folks can serve in this capacity. School Improvement Team will be a separate entity with the sole responsibility of creating the School Improvement Plan through staff feedback and conducting accountability checks on this plan throughout the school year. SIT members will be voted upon from various representative bodies in the school. School Leadership Team will be made up of grade level chairs, student support team members, and department chairs. The school leadership team will be appointed by the administration through your interest and desire to serve. If you are interested in serving in the capacity of a Grade Level Chair or Department Chair (ELA, Math, etc), please send me a direct email by next Tuesday. If you are interested in serving on SIT, please simply discuss this with your department/PLC when we return in August as we will nominate members then. School Leadership Team membership will be decided soon as we will need to meet at the end of July.
Preparing your classrooms?
If you want to stop in and work in your classrooms this summer, you are WELCOME! But you may want to call the main office first to see if the custodial team is working on your hallway, thus preventing you from accessing your classroom. Just a tip in wanting to respect your time!
No pics?
Our apologies for no visual pics this newsletter! We had a busy week full of interviews, and we didn't feel it appropriate to include pictures of all these folks wanting a job. But this week's tip for our interviewing candidates... make sure you wear both socks. Not just one - but two!!! :-) We really appreciate each teacher leader who has been able to participate in the interviews so far. And we are truly excited about the folks joining our Miner team!
