Greenwich Alliance for Education
If you don't know about all of the great things Greenwich Alliance for Education does for us, maybe it's time. Launched in 2006 as the local education foundation supporting students at GPS, they have dedicated more than $3.8 million to funding innovation, expanding opportunities, and inspiring educators. Have you subscribed to the Alliance newsletter yet? We highly recommend it.
Save The Date: The Greenwich Alliance 11th Annual Turkey Trot is scheduled for Saturday, November 27. Be on the lookout for instructions on how to register.
Community Service Hours needed? Volunteers are needed at the Turkey Trot from 8:30-11:30 AM to help with set up and clean up, work the food tent and registration area, and help along the course. Send an email to the organizers to sign up now!
National Day of Service and Remembrance
On September 10, Greenwich High School students, faculty, and staff participated in the annual September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance with a food drive dedicated to helping those less fortunate in the Greenwich community.
With the help of the Roots & Shoots Club and the Neighbor to Neighbor Club, they collected more 1,300 items that will benefit the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry.

What's Up, Doc?
Congratulations to Hamilton Avenue School's principal, Shanta Smith, for earning her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania. We are all beaming with pride for her great achievement!
Dr. Smith has proudly been with GPS since July of 2019. She had started her education career in 2000 as an elementary school teacher at District of Columbia Public Schools.
Way to go Doc!

Say Cheese!
Before Rick drops some science on his students over at GHS, he and Alyssa sends Charlotte and Emmaline off on the bus to North Street School. ππππ | Ethan's mom, Leslie, was so excited to drop off her second-grader on the first day at North Mianus School. That is one proud Hawk! | James and Jenna are lifelong residents of Greenwich, products of GPS, and now teach at Julian Curtiss. Look at those Greenwich Alliance for Education sponsored t-shirts! |
NPR Honorable Mention
This past spring, National Public Radio announced the winners of the 2021 Student Podcast Challenge, and congratulations go out to GHSβ seniors John Trudeau, Sophie Jaeger, Isabelle Ritchie, and Catherine Utzinger for earning an Honorable Mention for their podcast, The Mystery of Roanoke Island.
Students all over the country recorded interviews, edited tape, created home studios, and read their stories into a microphone. The contest brought more than 2,600 podcasts from 47 states and the District of Columbia.
Great job, Cardinals!
