Wrestling Hosts 62 Team Tournament, 500 Wrestlers Compete
On Friday and Saturday Francis Howell High School was host to one of the largest wrestling tournaments in the State. Sixty-two teams and five hundred wrestlers were on campus over the course of the two days to compete in the Kyle Thrasher Invitational. The event which took nearly one hundred workers and volunteers to put on was a huge success and had a record crowd for the two day tournament. Thank you to all of the workers and volunteers that made the event a success. You can view the medalists for our Vikings on both the boys and girls side below. Student-Participants Excel During First Semester
The benefits of being involved in an activity, club or sport at Francis Howell High School have never been more evident. During first semester the 1,232 students that were involved at Howell in an activity, club or sport outpaced their non-participant peers in the areas of academics, attendance and discipline. Howell continues to work to get students involved and attached in the building through the nearly 60 activities, clubs and sports offered. These opportunities include many district paid and supported activities as well as student formed and staff volunteered opportunities. Thank you to all of our students that continue to get involved outside of the normal school day. A special thank you also goes out to the many coaches and sponsors that help make these opportunities possible for our students.

The first semester was a very successful one for the 1,232 students that were involved in activities, clubs and sports at Howell. Howell programs set high standards in activity, sport, classroom and in the community. During the first semester students involved in an activity club or sport had a cumulative G.P.A of 3.49. all of our MSHSAA sponsored activities and sports. Our Vikings had success in their respective activities and sports as well as in the classroom. All MSHSAA sponsored activities and sports earned a program GPA of over 3.0. GG's & Company Compete At St. Charles
The Golden Girls & Company program traveled to St. Charles High School on Saturday to compete in their competition. The program had another strong showing at both the JV and Varsity level. Girls Basketball Volunteers With Sharing Meals Program
After a four day stretch that saw the girls basketball program play three games in four days, our Lady Vikings were out giving back in the community on Saturday. This past Saturday they volunteered at the Knights Templar where they worked with the Sharing Meals Program. Thank you to Coach Muench and the GIrls Basketball program for being actively involved in our community and for providing great opportunities for the young women in the program to grow as people.

Cast Named For Spring Production, Snow Angel
This past week the cast of the spring production, Snow Angel was announced. Congratulations to this very talented cast that entertain the packed crowds this spring. Below you can read a play description as well as a list of the cast members.
When the quiet town of Deerpoint, Vermont is hit by the biggest blizzard in 107 years, a mysterious girl named Eva steps out of a snow bank and into the lives of 15 confused teenagers who are asked to help her in her search. What Eva's searching for -- and who she truly is -- becomes a mystery that baffles, divides, and energizes the teens of Deerpoint. Told through journal entries and interactions among the students over the course of a single snow day, Snow Angel is a funny and eerie tale of teen angst, discovery, and the power of believing. Congratulations to Howell swimmers Mary Todd, Abbie Edgar and Lily Ramsay for representing Howell and the girls swim program over the course of their high school careers. Upcoming Spring Impact Testing Dates Released
This past week Impact Testing dates were released for the upcoming spring season. Impact testing is required for baseball, girls lax, girls soccer, boys volleyball, & track (jumpers & pole vault). Freshman and Juniors in those sports need to complete testing prior to the first day of spring sports if they have not completed it previously this year. Students new to Howell must also complete the testing.

Mandatory Spring Sports Eligibility Parent Meeting Set For February 13th
The spring season sports eligibility parent meeting has been set for February 13th. All students planning on participating in a spring sport must attend this meeting with a parent. Eligibility paperwork turn in will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons with the meeting portion of the evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. All eligibility paperwork must be complete to be turned in. All students participating in a fall MSHSAA sponsored activity must have this completed prior to the first day on February 25th. It is recommended that all paperwork be turned in at the sports eligibility event on February 13th. To ensure participation on February 25th all fully complete paperwork must be turned in no later than Thursday, February 21st at noon. A link to all eligibility paperwork can be found below.

The summer, fall, winter, and spring dead periods and starting dates for MSHSAA sponsored activities has been released for the 2019-20 school year. These dates can be found below. We hope that this information helps all Vikings and their families coordinate and prepare for the summer and sports seasons ahead during the 2019-20 school year.
